Cannot make a bad choice with either one. I looked at both and liked the torque of the twin but ended up with the FZ6R with the full front and more low-mid range than the non R FZ6. You have a good problem, enjoy.
Get a revolver over an automatic due to absolute reliability issue.
A .357 magnium also chambers .38 so I'd go with a 2 inch .357 and I believe S&W makes a titanium model so its light and durable.

Are you firm on getting another 600cc motorcycle? After trading up to either of the two new you mention would you want to move up to 1000cc motorcycle after another year?
Perhaps look at the FZ-1 now ...
