I managed to take in a couple of events around town today via the FZ6, and a great morning for a ride too.

Victoria Trail was closed today to make way for a soap box derby. It's been a while since Edmonton did something like this and it was only for kids up to age 16. Damn, to be young again.

This entry looked out of place, and fast.

LOL, the kid looked like he was forced unwillingly to get in.

Your typical entries, more like a tight budget operation.

No free ride here, whatever goes downhill has to come back up eventually.

Looking at the top of the hill, spectators lined along the sides waiting for the next heat.

Just as fun going uphill as down with these guys adding the horsepower...

Don't forget to lean and drag a knee kid!

For all you MTB enthusiasts, another event that was going on today was the Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) sanctioned mountain bike race event held down at the Kinsmen Center in the valley.

It's been too long since I raced little alone attended a MTB race. Felt good to hang out and watch some of the action. Fairly small scaled compared to some of the World Cup and Canada Cup events I've been to, but the atmosphere was the same.

A BMW GS800, normally used for leading the pack through the trails, but I think that is for the elite class going at 2PM this avro...

So....if it was all about speed today how fast did you get the FZ6 up to?!?!

It was fast ... , but nobody took pictures. :spank: ;)

wow nice pics. i like the 2nd pic with blurry background and the cart.

I thought it was a good opportunity to capture the essence of speed with by panning and blurring out the background. Normally I'm a still subject kind of picture taking guy, but since I've never been to a soap box derby, WTF, why not.

i wish i had a pic of me and my fazer like that. it would make it look like i was going 200mph!

I was thinking the same too, but there aren't too many photographers I know who could pull this off. I'm thinking a driver (car or bike) and a passenger taking the shot, or am I overthinking this? :eyebrow:
