  • I've always wanted to do it, but my work schedule never seemed to match up. Luckily, I'll have some time this year to volunteer at the track and learn a few things as well as running my bike. So far, I've found the optimal launch rpm is right around 6,500
Actually I am between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. AZO is the 3 letter identifier for the airport. Thanks for the welcome, this is a great forum with tons of information and cool members willing to share intel. This is my first bike and I am loving it. I learn something new every time I ride.
Rider Resume: I've been riding motorcycles for some time now and thoroughly enjoy the sport. I began riding my grandfathers old 1974 Honda CL 200 which I found covered in dust in his garage. The bike sat for nearly 20 years which caused a host of problems. The fuel tank was rusted, carbs were plugged with junk, a family of mice took up residence in the airbox and plenty of rust had formed on the chrome wheels. I learned some mechanical expertise from my dad, which has undoubtedly helped me maintain my other vehicles. I began riding the CL200 on my parents 80 acres when I was 12 years old. I put nearly 5,000 miles on the Honda by riding on my parents property. I wanted to get my cycle endorsement, but my parents said "not in our house". I ended up selling the bike, and bought a cage for transportation. Over the next 6 or 7 years, I attended college, got a job and bought a house, but the urge to get another motorcycle still lingered in my mind.

In March of 2008, that urge to get another motorcycle became too great to resist any longer. I began shopping for a smaller motorcycle to allow me to get back into the sport. I researched the Ninja 250 but had a hard time stomaching the local Kawi dealer. I ended up purchasing a used 2003 Yamaha XT 225 and put just over 2,000 miles on it between June and August. It was a fun bike to ride, but all of my friends had road bikes. The XT was perfect for back roads, trails and limited highway use. It was sorely lacking power when compared to my friends bikes. I did some research and discovered the FZ6 might be the perfect bike for me. I took a test drive and immediately fell in love with the extra power and the seat position. I negotiated a fair price and traded in my XT 225 on a new 2008 FZ6.

I've since put 2,200 miles on the FZ6 since August 5, 2008 and look forward to each coming mile. So far, I've logged around 10,000 miles on my motorcycles. I enjoy riding with friends, and look forward to learning all that I can about bikes and riding techniques.

Ride safe, Ride sober, keep your head on a swivel, and keep learning.
