First post, new to me 2005 FZ6 in silver, 20K miles, paid $1300. I need the collective wisdom of the Forum to understand what I have and what I need. I'd like to address both fenders in this thread.

Front fender: I think this one is easy, not sure. The right side fender mount/hole is broken through. The previous owner tried to Mickey Mouse it with a bolt and a couple of fender washers.

I've found a couple of used fenders, black on Ebay, $60. I can order a new replacement in black, unpainted, direct from China, $75 shipped. Your advice to me?

Used:

New:

REAR FENDER: This is where I can really use your help. You can see from the pics the rear fender is very close to the wheel. I haven't been able to find a direct replacement and there are a LOT of ads for "fender eliminators." I don't know what stock looks like and I don't know how the fender eliminator works.

Is there an aftermarket fender which ditches that rear fender in my pics altogether? Your advice?

When they refer to fender eliminators, (which you already have installed), their referring to where the license plate would attach, NOT the "fender" attached to the swing arm That "fender" attached to the swingarm appears to be stock and easily replaced: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2005/fz6-fz6st/rear-arm

As for the front, click on this parts diagram and you can see what/how it SHOULD be attached:
**BTW, a brand new front fender, OEM, (NOT a knock off) is about the same $ at Partzilla

Brand new, the rear fender is pretty cheap. The front, if buying the original can be purchased painted...

If you look thru the parts diagram on-line, you can see just about every part/section / area:

Thanks Scott, you've answered several questions about the fenders that had me confused because I did not know what the bike looked like stock.

You also gave me a link to parts I had not seen before.

I'm checking it out right now.

I like Partzilla. I will be doing some shopping there.

The problem with their front fender is that the color is "purplish blue." My fender is black.

FYI China wanted $76 for their front fender painted black. I made an offer of $50 and they counter-offered $71. Big deal.

Something that has me concerned. I've now looked at dozens of pics of 2004 and 2005 (my year) on the internet. I have NEVER seen even one other bike that has a silver back fender. They are ALL black. My silver fender looks factory, not spray pained over. The Seller got a duplicate title the day before I bought it. I'm wondering what I have?

@TownsendsFJR1300 could you publish some more pics of your bike and explain what you did and why? I've been studying your pic and your signature quote. You have a lot of safety items added I think I would be interested in, especially lighting.

BD43 headlight mod, -This is a mod that illuminates the right headlight(low beam) with the OEM left side
PIAA bulbs, - Higher output bulbs with the same draw as the stockers

Stebal air horn, - An air horn that's WAY louder than stock.

Scorpion SS pipes-(no DB killers),-way louder than stock, besides sounding good, most motorists can hear you if your in the area..

Speedohealer, -Allows you to correct the high reading of the speedometer

HEL SS brake lines,-Brakes are much firmer with SS lines

Fenda Extenda,-Not a safety feature, just keeps more road crap with the ft fender extended down approx 5"

K&P SS re-usable oil filter,-Not a safety feature but a re-usable oil filter with a cast aluminum housing for additional oil cooling

Custom mounted BMW style electrical outlet(L.S.), -Again, not a safety feature but the socket, mounted on the left side of the bike, allows the use of a battery charger, air compressor, heated clothing, etc..

Techmount GPS mount with handlebar bar risers/set backs,- Simply raises and brings the handle bar closer to you (for me, much more comfy)

Additional helmet lock, - A second helmet lock, mounted on the right side for another (passenger) helmet.

Custom mod'ed seat(Spencers),- Modded seat for additional comfort

Hyper light-rear running/brake light, -Shown in the above pic, a strip, LED that flash's BRIGHTLY with the brake light, also has an additional red running light (more visibility)

Custom radiator/fan protector,- An aluminum guard that bolts to the lower radiator. This prevents small rocks from kicking up and getting stuck in the fan. A known issue of frying the fan motor(fuse doesn't blow).

Techspec tank pads, Protects the tank from legs rubbing up against the paint.

Grip Puppies,- Grip covers that make the handle bars "thicker" and helps eliminate vibs into the handle bars.

Yamaha rear rack with custom aluminum flat rack. -The OEM rear top box rack (ordered from Europe) that attaches to the rear grab rail. I made/attached an aluminum plate to that for "bungee'in articles to.

Not in the list but I installed Schrader valves in the stock fork caps. This allows air to be added to the forks allowing infinite adjustment. Get rid of excess "sag", adjust the firmness of the forks.

I'll add pictures for anything you interested in..

Thanks Scott, but for now your excellent descriptions are helping to point me in the right direction. No pics need at this time, I can google everything.

A couple of things, maybe you can clarify. I've been looking at thousands of ads for products. Looking just to get an impression of what people are buying.

1. Non-keyed gas caps - I would say almost every third ad was for no-key gas caps, billet, anodized, cheap ones, expensive ones. Are the keyed gas caps a problem?

2. These chain roller guides are the second most common thing I see. Do I need these? Does my FZ6 have a chain tensioner, does it need one?

3. Re-usable oil filter - Scott I saw where you had one. I saw an ad for an OEM oil filter. It was a simple oil canister that you would find for any car, the car oil filters costing 5 bucks, but the Yamaha filter I saw was SEVENTY-FIVE dollars! They are kidding, right?

Not used or needed. Just clean, lube and adjust to spec's(2" total up and down, see your owners manual)

Here's what I have (K&P) but didn't spend this much many years ago. It has paid for itself plus the additional cleaning efficiency and cooling. No chance of wrangling with a stuck filter either: https://kandpengineering.com/product/s1-2/

If I recall, both fenders for the 05 color bikes are black (Dark purple blue metallic and Bluish Silver are the official names).
But they appear to have different part numbers, which makes me think I'm wrong on that.

In any case, I have an 05 Silver, and replaced the front fender with part 5VX-21511-10-00. It's definitely black, and is listed on the parts page link posted.
