Hi,

just want to see your opinion on the following topic.

I own a 2008 FZ6n S2 with 70 000 km on it. Bike runs great, oil changes are regular on 5000 km intervals,
just did a complete front fork rebuild due to fork leak in October and changed the springs.
Other than that i don't really have any other complaints or issues.

I wanted to hear your opinion regarding the the topic on upgrading or selling it ?

List of upgrade options :
- Ohlins rear shock
- MIVV or Roads Italia Exhaust
- Comfort seat

Those upgrades alone would be around 1400€.

What's your opining ? Sell and buy another bike or keep and upgrade ?

Looking forward to hear from you.

What would you replace it with? What doesn’t the FZ provide you with that another bike would?

A year ago I really wanted a KTM 790 Duke. In the end I decided to invest in an Ohlins shock and new tires for the FZ6 rather than spend $10,000 on a new bike. I saved $9,000 and had a great summer enjoying my FZ6.

It's not a question of "fun factor" rather future proofing since it has 70 000 km, i bough it
about a year ago and did around 10 000 km during the season.

So it's safe to presume that at the end of season 2021 it will have approx. 80 - 85 000 km.

What are your experience with high-mileage engines ?

I was looking a 2014-2016 MT-09.

43,000 miles, if maintained and not seriously abused is low mileage for the FZ.

Valve checks, every 26,600 miles? That's generally way beyond MANY other bikes and not hard to do.
Keep the oil change to date, lube the chain and clutch cable. With less torque than the bigger bikes, I've found my tires last easily twice as long as the bigger bikes :) .

I have about 30,000 miles on mine, runs better than when new (and modded to my liking).

We've had several member go over 100,000 miles W/O any major engine issues..

IMO, if you like the bike, keep it.
With that said, frankly, I really dislike the looks of most of the newer bikes (just old school I guess).

If you want to check the internal health of the engine, do a leak down test. If a cylinder is low, beyond say 15% of the other cylinder's, yea, it might be time to start looking.

Thank you very much for the answer.

As i said, bike runs great and i didn't really notice any power drops or performance degradation.
Engine oil is changed every 5000 km, chain is lubed every 500 km and clutch cable was replaced last year and also lubed regularly.

That being said, you definitely helped to make my decision to keep and upgrade it :)
