Have an excellent running fz6r I just got but it will only start with the side stand up and the clutch in. Has no neutral light on dash so I am assuming the bike doesn't know it's in neutral and safe to start.

Pull in clutch and put kick stand up and fires with ease....

Is this a bad neutral safety switch? If not what else could it be. I have another fz6r I just got so if I need to cannibolise a part to check I could did that.

Welcome to our great forum!
The neutral light gets it ground path at the engine through the neutral safety switch. It should be a blue wire. Unplug it from the switch and ground the wire to the engine case to see if the neutral light will activate. If it does light then you'll need a new switch.
I don't remember where it's actually located but I'm sure one of our team will pop in.... It's probably on top of the gearbox area on the engine case.

I just realized your bike is the FZ6r. This is not the FZ6 model which was produce between 2004 and 2009. The neutral safety switch and wire color code may still be the same. I'm thinking the engine have similarities but they are different model bikes and engines.

Hmmm .....anyone have a service manual with schematic for the FZ6r ?
