    Best car/truck you've owned?

Probably my '90 Accord EX. Black and tan, manual trans, every option but leather, and it was my college beater. 50k hard miles. Handled really well, motor was fun to wind out in 2nd and 3rd gear, but the salt was getting to it and I sold it with 180k miles on it. It was the last generation...

Confirm fork cap socket size? 24?

Thanks! at 43k miles and seven years they're pretty tired, I figured if I was replacing the oil I may as well upgrade the springs. Hey, uh, while you're here, whats the torque spec for the fork caps and triple clamps?

Confirm fork cap socket size? 24?

other way around, really. I ordered hyperpro springs and I need to pull the forks to take to a friend's shop to work on them. He was pretty explicit that if I don't loosen the fork caps while they're on the bike, there is no way to get a firm enough grip to do so once they are out. Photo...

Confirm fork cap socket size? 24?

I have a fairly decent collection of sockets but wasn't able to get my fork caps loose (prior to loosening the lower triple clamp, as recommended by a friend). Seemed to be close to 15/16 but I assume they are metric, which would be 24mm. Can someone here confirm before I go shopping...

    Photography Thread !!!

The light was terrible during the periods of the weekend that I was not inebriated or sleeping in. Such is the danger of vacationing. ;) I did go out and battle the bright grey skies for a bit Saturday afternoon, with some success. "Are you still futzing around with that thing?"

    Photography Thread !!!

Not sure how I missed this thread for so long. Got halfway serious about decent photos when I started taking awesome motorcycle trips, about five years ago. Made the usual progression from a bridge camera to a DLSR, lenses, flashes, tripods, reflectors, shooting film, etc. Recently realized...

    Creston to New Denver

Love that area. Spent three nights in the Kaslo hotel on a trip thru the kootenays from Saskatoon and ran from Kaslo to New Denver a few times, as well as up on some logging roads, down to the brewery in Creston, and all over the place. I doubt there is a more beautiful place in North America...

Great River Road / Fall Colours MSP->STL

The ride back from there is where it got all sorts of stupid. My GPS was on the fritz, I forgot which of my five bags had a Wisconsin map, and generally forgot that even though I had planned on two leisurely days to get back, I'd only made it 200 miles the day before. Here's the route of...

Great River Road / Fall Colours MSP->STL

Alright. Sunday, figured I'd head partway home and meander along the river a bit. Didn't hit the road til about three, so I noted where the state parks were and figured I'd stop at dark and camp somewhere, then finish up on Monday. Well, the river road in that area is effing slow. Grafton...

Great River Road / Fall Colours MSP->STL

Now, I'm a big fan of Autumn. Leaves crunching, colors changing, and more than anything, ripe apples mean it is time to bake some effing pies. We hit up the local farmers market, and found some nice tart apples as well as some fresh pears. My buddy wanted pumpkin, so he bought a...

Great River Road / Fall Colours MSP->STL

Wandered down to St. Louis last weekend to crash a party a friend was throwing, and bake some pies. It is fall, after all. Quick 11hr, 550mi day down there. It was 39F when I awoke on Friday, so I went back to bed and didn't actually leave until after 9. I abhor the interstate, so I took...

    Wisconsin Rustic Road Ride Report

hello from Minnesota! :BLAA: Very nice ride, thanks for sharing! Lots of people out chasing rustic roads, it is a very under-the-radar sort of microtourism thing they have going on.

    Do you use your clutch?

Clutch cable broke last night while out on a ride. Only stalled it once! Pretty hard to find neutral while approaching a stoplight, without a clutch. Then leaving a light it is paddle paddle paddle snick vroom! People probably thought I had a really screwed up moped. :D

    Reserve?

Also, the trip meter will count up from zero letting you know how far you've traveled since the low-fuel light came on. I tend to roll another 20-30 miles. I usually get 50mpg but I really don't want to run the fuel pump dry.

    Great-Grandma on my FZ6

I took my mom (a grandma) for a spin around the lakes here in SW Minneapolis. She had a bike in the 70s when she was in college. Rode it around in jeans with a sweet gold metalflake helmet. She was a little awkward at first, but loosened up. They're out there.

    Re-gearing for commuting

I get 55mpg with stock gearing, if I run at an actual 70 (on the GPS) or slower. Your main fight in fuel economy is rising effect of aerodynamic drag as you increase speed. RPMs have very little to do with it, other than possibly reducing vibration and as a result, increasing comfort.
