I picked up mine new in Oct 2005. Currently has 43K miles. Needs a few new parts and bolts for "looks" reasons, otherwise still in top shape. Bike is really bullet proof!
Good looking bike! I would suggest change the brake fluid too. Other than that, check the seals and hoses. Easy stuff to replace. Welcome to the forum!!!
+1
I have only ever owned an FZ6 (2005) and I constantly look at new bikes. Just can't seem to give up the fz. Meets or exceeds all of my needs. Although, the XSR900 is a great looking bike and one of the top on my list of "if i ever decide to get a different bike"...
Yea... If you are worried about the long term costs.. Then this may not be the sport for you. Everything has a cost attached to it. Gas, oil, coolant, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, tires, brakes, random ascetic parts if you accidentally drop it. But if your just trying to stretch a...
Here is the link for the spacer / fender tab cad files if you go the R6 fork route. You will want the first set of pictures for an 06. These all have to be machined (minus the brake spacers) and I would get a few quotes. I have seen anywhere from $50 to $250 for a set...
for what you would spend in fixing it.. might as well save up and buy a nicer looking one.. that looks like a project.. unless thats what your looking for then yea. these are good project bikes!! good luck!!
I have all the files for this @ http://www.lerecords.com/fz6/
I don't know of anyone currently making these, but a good machine shop should be able to machine you a set of spacers. Good Luck!!
I had an issue with the started button and had to replace that whole side piece. If you are handy you can take it apart and see if the wire is starting to not make contact. Thats about all i can suggest. Either that or the battery, as they don't last forever. If you have a multi-meter, you can...
I have an 05 with 37K on the odometer and bought new. Its the only one I have ever really riden (few miles on an 05 sportster and few miles on a cb360). Every time I think about getting something else I take it for a ride and I forget about a new bike. Mines paid for and setup for touring the...
Hopefully.. I have had a few loosen up due to vibration.. but I can see how being a little overzealous, you could easily strip one. I have done it to a brake bleader screw one time to the point it snapped off. Man was that a fun one to fix (whole new caliper)!!
well.. I will have to go to the dealer for that tomorrow as Partzilla already shipped my other parts.. good to know that I needed one of those! I'll throw up some pictures as I am doing all of this work!! thanks again!
I would definitely go with all-ball for the steering and whatever else they offered that fit. I have heard good things about them over the years. I just don't want to put those in and would likely just have a shop do it.
Where you talk about replacing that tab, are you talking part #34? Or is...
I think I am going to bypass all the bearings and swing arm for now. Maybe when i get the tires changed, I will have a shop put in all new bearings then.
I have a question about the sprockets.. Should I get new bolts for the rear one? New bolt for the front? What about loctite? (I have blue...
I was honestly thinking about getting a set of r6 forks for the brake upgrade and fork upgrade... Might be fun rebuilding those.. side note- how long should bearings last average. I know it will be broad, but some direction would be helpful. thanks!!
I have both manuals and do oil and brake fluid changes. I just have shops put on the tires and give it a look over as a precaution and to somewhat support the shops. I work at a Fitting a tubing company, so we have all sorts of amazing tools!! not to mention a whole empty back half of a...
Bike is an 05 which puts it at 12 years old... Millage is 30K Miles... Currently having a problem with the starer switch and when I took it apart today I found the wire broke off from the switch contact. New assembly is $75 and I am thinking about buying that instead of soldering it back...
