Updating this thread as I went over 120,000 miles recently and it is still going strong. The engine still pulls like new. I don't ride as much so it has taken me a little longer to get to 120k. I also recently tried to sell it, but most people are wary of the high miles.
I thought I would try here first if anyone in the Tampa area is looking for a FZ6:
08 Yamaha FZ6 -- $1,700 FIRM -- 600cc, 120k miles, original owner, Title in hand, Add ons: Frame Sliders, K&N Air Filter, New YUASA battery, AS IS. Also included is a Haynes manual and the original rear...
I wanted to compliment the OP on such a nice bike and setup. I also had a 2010 for a brief period and for those unfamiliar with this bike, the OP has fixed a lot of the complaints people had with this bike out of the box especially with the suspension and lighting. Also. my OEM hard bags...
As to the riding, Shenandoah valley is absolutely gorgeous and the views of the valley from Skyline drive were stunning when I wasn't shivering. While beautiful, the weather was in the 30s at the higher elevations and I was wearing every piece of gear I had. Brrr. The speed limit at 35 mph was...
The battery died! The two year old BikeMaster Gel battery is not recommended by me. I went back to YUASA
I also did suffer a torn bottom rubber lip to my LS2 helmet, two false neutrals while shifting and the bike burned some oil for the first time.
As to the trip, it was along the...
Gas is getting into the oil and overfilling the oil reserve tank and constantly fouling my third cylinder spark plug. Here is what a shop has done so far: checked valves, no adjustment needed, did a throttle body sync., adjustment needed and thought this would solve my problem, injector fine...
I can offer up some suggestions since I have ridden the bikes on your list.
My first suggestion is to try for some seat time. Look for demo rides or make contact through the FZ09 forum to see if someone will let you try one out. I test rode an early example of the FZ09 when it first came...
They are well made bikes. I never thought I would have the most miles as I am currently at 111,207, but I have since retired my 110 mile daily commute by moving three miles to work and now ride a bicycle to work. It is a good thing I live closer as I am still having intermittent starter issues...
The best advice is to ride as many as you can and pick the one that stirs your soul since you stated this will be something special for you.
With that said, I will comment on the bikes listed.
Sprint
I owned a Triumph Tiger 1050 which I believe is the same engine as the Sprint. I also test...
The brushes were all used up. Motor appears alright, so will first try the brushes and see where it leaves me as I can bump start it until the brushes come in. Thanks again and I'll post and update once the brushes have been replaced.
I should know for sure later today, but I am fairly certain I will need to replace the starter on my 08 fz6 given the problems I am having Anyone have one for sale? The dealer listed a rebuilt one for $165 which seems slightly high. I have seen an 04 FZ6 for sale on ebay as well as one for a...
I don't see a 2015 mileage thread so will just post here. Started year at 84,185 and ended at 104,506 = 20,321. Just about the same as last year. Still 99% boring commute miles. Would take half if it meant quality miles.
To answer some questions posted:
You want to replace the cam chain and tensioner before it slips and you need major engine work. You will hear a ticking noise as warning. The sound tells you the tensioner has exceeded its life expectancy and is no longer tightening the chain.
I have a 110...
You will get there. What I wanted to tell people is that if you take good care of a motorcycle, it will take good care of you and last longer than the prevailing wisdom. At the same time, the bike is getting a little old and as my primary vehicle, I need to start thinking about what comes...
Would prefer to be in your shoes as I have ridden out to Colorado on the bike and would much prefer riding out there to Florida even given the deer.
Florida does have deer, but they are smaller and infrequently seen, but three years ago I lived in Michigan where there are a ton of deer. After...
Thanks, I am starting to having some starting issues. Once every two weeks, I hit the starter button and it only clicks the first time. Probably the bushings like you mentioned or battery.
