Don't own a car, ride in the rain all the time;
- engine oil is great for lubing the throttle cable, it keeps it smooth, and lasts quite a bit. I use the same oil as for the engine
- take apart, clean and grease the shifting linkage joints every once in a while. I do it every time I start to...
Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate each input. I was thinking the same thing - the groove is not deep, and if the rotor can "handle" all the cooling holes it has then this groove shouldn't be an issue:)
Hi all,
Just wanted to share my misery :p - the bike has little over 90.000 km/~56k miles, look down to check the front and see this bastard looking back at me. The pads are OEM and changed this year, when I took the caliper off to inspect I found a corresponding groove on the outer pad so I...
Good job, braided lines are my #1 mod, coupled with new brake fluid & clean brake pistons they are one of the cheapest ways to make your bike feel MUCH better.
Pro tip; make sure to remember where at least half of the screws go, that way when you reassemble you first put in the screws you "know" and then pray you figure out the rest!
/s :p
Finally replaced the faulty kill switch, I had bypassed the old one but it kept bugging me the bike is not 100% kosher.
You need to remove the airbox+battery, the connector is located on the right side (sitting on the bike) under the frame. Tie a strong nylon string to the old cable, pull it...
Seems that this issue is highly individual, I'm 180 cm / 5'-10 55/64" and I love the stock windscreen. The wind hits me at my shoulders and above but it's a weakened clean air that causes no buffeting whatsoever. Helmet is Shoei GT air and before that Shark s900
Went the XJ6 handlebar route - as seen in the pic the sweep is slightly smaller making them a lot more comfortable for me, you also get a slightly more forward riding position (not necessarily bad but worth noting).
I am absolutely convinced that even today - 14 years after this bike was manufactured the EVIL bastard who designed these screws is still sitting somewhere in his lair laughing like a maniac :D
Had the best intention to perform a post mortem on the cable, but the spare parts hoarder in me just couldn't do it so it ended up on the "just in case, you never know" shelf.
That shelf also contains an old clutch cable from my previous bike and some parts for a car (both sold), but, you never...
New clutch cable in, the old one did ~38000km/23000 miles, no fraying as far as I can tell but couldn't get a smooth clutch lever action any more.
The first 90% of its lifetime it was lubed with silicone spray pushed with one of those tiny cable lube tools
Last 10% with motor oil by a syringe...
Today I didn't install the new clutch cable that arrived just days before the shutdown, I also didn't wash the bike and didn't go for a ride. Aaaargh! :D
Hmm, read about how the heating method makes the plastic more brittle since it "draws" out the oil in it. Not sure what to think about it though, it's one of those things that sound both plausible and ridiculous at the same time to me :D
After 36000 km/22300 mi (the bike has a total of 76000 km/47200 mi) the OEM chain gave out, this pic was taken after cleaning and trying to get the link to unbind. Since there are a couple of other links whose mobility I'm not happy with either, a new set is going in.
Maintenance; Spotty at...
From motorcyclespareparts;
"The JOINT, AIR CLEANER 2 is used on 14 models from 2004 to 2009"
Highly doubt it would go out of production without a replacement part [emoji106]
