I’ve been doing a few changes to my bike and one of the things Ive considered is doing an exhaust swap. Now ive done some looking an found that certain years of r6 headers fit on certain years of fz6s, but havent narrowed down what fits to what year.

I want to install an r6 exhaust just because I love the way the 4/2/1 looks and comes out the side behind the foot peg and brake. Plus it clears up my tail exhaust ugliness.

I have some one willing to sell me their exhaust but it looks like its straight from the collector and straight out the pipe, looks like no cat. Its from an 09 yzf-r6s, but will they fit? I also have some 00, 02, and 03 r6 headers in my cart as well? Will they fit?

I also have a shorty exhaust slip on in my ebay cart. To help paint a picture of what I’m going for

If i go thru with this, and I know ill run into the issue of running lean or rich, do I absolutely need to install a power commander? I’m not worried about power, I commute, not race. I’m just going for purely sound and aesthetics. Plus I don’t want to spend money on a power commander lol

Is your bike an FZ6 or an FZ6S? I really don't know much about the 6S (this forum is focused on the non-S bikes). I'm not aware of anyone putting an R6 exhaust of an FZ6...so you are kind of on your own. However, with that said I do have some thoughts:

1. If the header pipes fit, they are likely the same down pipes with a different collector.
2. If number one above is true, then the on-board fuel trims should be able to fine tune the A:F. You will want to do this tuning on a dyno to ensure that you are not running too lean.

If your bike is in fact an FZ6S, disregard any of my thoughts...I don't even know if you can access the fuel trims.

I have a 2004 fz6, so the series 1 version. I looked up the “S” in (FZ6S) and the “S” means plastics. Now Im not sure why that means plastic when all bike originally come with plastics? Idk. My bike has a naked look and the front fairing is completely removed

I might be wrong here but I think it's the 2006 R6 which headers fit, but to be honest, if you find someone that makes exhaust I think it will be better for you since the O2 sensor is fitted on the end of the headers (atleast on mine)

I had a person make me a custom pipe took him less than a day and cost just 120$(including the mount for the exhaust tip)

Photos below.

I think Gary may be thinking of the FZ6R which is a similar but different bike from the FZ6 S1 through S2 04 - 09.
The S1 (04 - 06) does not use an O2 sensor.
Once you pull the CAT off the system you'll probably be running lean and have get the A/F ratio adjusted.

Oh okay, so theres no need to buy a power commander? Because I would love to save that money for something else. Yea I did a 360 and didnt see an o2 sensor at all

Oh i had no idea there were no O2 sensor on those, my bad

So lets say I buy the r6 headers and exhaust slip on. Theres no cat installed. The probability of running lean is high. Ill most likely buy a pc.

But lets say I install my fz6’s catalytic in between the headers and slip on, will that help or still cause me to run lean?

I feel like no matter what I do, that power commander is staring at me from the back of the room lmfao!!!

I really dont want to buy a pc but if I run lean, and I damage my engine Im gunna wish I bought one. But if I dont need tooooo, that would be sweet

The pics is what I want to run, but Im down to throw on my cat in between to help reduce the amount of air be expelled, but idk if doing that will still make me run lean

If you are going to have the FZ6 cat grafted onto the R6 exhaust…you might as well just modify the FZ6 exhaust. The R6 exhaust will really serve no purpose unless the collector is placed in such a way that it facilitates the modification. I think you should start taking measurements and map out how this exhaust is going to work.
