Itty bitty trivial issue..

This past weekend I decided to remove the warning sticker about "read the manual and wear a helmet" that was mounted on the gas tank just forward of the fill cap. It was getting yellowed from spills.

So I took a razor blade to it then used mineral spirits to rub off the goo.

But when I was done I found that the area below the sticker location was slightly elevated above the rest of the surface. I'm guessing the clearcoat on the rest of the tank has been reduced a bit through oxidation and polishing.

Has anybody else removed this sticker? found a raised rectangle?

I removed ALL stickers in 2009 when I acquired my '07. I didn't have any issues and used a hair drier to loosen the glue, then gas to remove excess..
You couldn't tell it was there.

You may try a good cleaner compound, (not too aggressive). The clearcoat should hold up to that..

*My current tank has been replaced over time (and doesn't come with any stickers)

Used a blade and isopropyl alcohol years back. No trace it was ever there.
Took them off the fairing too.

OP, it sounds like the adhesive pad got separated from the actual label and is still on the tank. You'll want to use Goo Gone and a heat gun or hairdryer - it will come right off.
