I also had a lot of unpleasant wind buffeting on my ‘05 fz6. Tried without a screen and that helped. But the look of the bike is a bit awkward w/o screen, so I tried to understand how buffeting works and how to eliminate it. It had to do with pressure drop behind your screen which causes turbulence. The newer versions of the fz6 have a gap underneath the screen to keep some airflow from below and thus prevent pressure drop and buffeting. To fix this for my bike I cut a letter-box-size opening in de bottom part of my screen and that did the trick. It doesn’t have any negative impact on rain coverage or wind noise, but makes the air flow more linear behind the screen.
Also I bought a second-hand screen as a spare (€30) just in case I messed up. But I didn’t need it
