I'm getting the MIVV Oval Carbon Cap exhaust tomorrow (in the picture) and I've heard that the db killers are difficult to remove. I don't know if the baffles on some MIVV models are easier to remove than others, but from what I've read you need to drill out rivets and beat them out with a hammer. Is that true for the oval carbon cap model too?

How do you remove the db killers?

Thanks!

^^ Have you pulled down the manufactures instructions? They likely have a PDF with the details in it...

lol...

Technical Information - MIVV
USEFUL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCT PROPER USE

To maximise the performance of MIVV exhaust:
Check from time to time if the fasteners and clamps are tight.
Maintain and keep you MIVV exhaust clean.
Be aware that the exhaust and/or parts can reach very high temperatures.
Avoid contact with the skin, as well as clothing and footwear.
If you have an exhaust equipped with interchangeable inserts or with a db-killer, use the necessary tools to remove or install these items.

** never mind - they don't seem too helpful! :spank:

The dB-killers are indeed held in with a single rivet (or bolt) per silencer.
You can clearly see their location at the installation schematic.
If they are rivets, just gently drill them out (be carefull not to ream the hole in the silencer. Use a vice grip to clamp the dB-killer and pull it out of the silencer. You could use some lubrification (e.g. WD-40) to make it easier.
If they won't come out, you could try tapping the vice grip (not towards the silencer ;) but in the direction the dB-killers will come out)

Its not electrical so if ^that^ doesn't work:

1 - Use a hammer
2 - Increase the size of hammer until desired result is achieved
3 - Yell profanities loud enough to make sure the exhaust knows what's best for it

(an old lady told me to try #3 in a walmart parking lot when i was changing widscreen wipers on the car :D)
