Hello All,

Been a while. Last year I posted an issue with the bike stalling out that turned out to be the battery. But around the same time and now it is still happening, at idle, the bike seems to 'rev' up and down somewhat. It is a 2004 FZ6 with about 8k miles. It sat over winter with fuel stabilizer and fresh gas and has been run but not ridden yet because of the idle issue and it is not inspected yet. But it did this before the winter.

I searched the ol' internets and found some possible issues but am looking for somewhere I can start on the easy side. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but the most I have done on this bike is the spark plugs (aside from oil and transmission fluid changes and some lighting). My thoughts where to try to clean the fuel injectors or throttle bodies (I have never done this), check the air box, and that the fuel lines are not kinked, but I am not sure beyond that.

I read the manual and adjusting the idle speed seems quite complicated. Any first step guidance is much appreciated.

There are several possibles that come to mind:
  • As you mentioned, weak FI solenoids
  • A vacuum leak
  • Throttle Bodies that are out of sync
  • Failing fuel pressure regulator
How many miles are on the bike? Think back to what maintenance has been performed prior to noticing a searching idle.

Around 8000 miles. I have done little maintenance in the last few years as I have not ridden much. Mainly checked the oil and got it inspected.
