Melted plastic on header fix!

Found a piece of what appeared to be plastic melted to my header.
The piece was approx 2" x 2" on the RS outer header.

Metal polish, brake cleaner, raw fuel wouldn't touch it..

After some research I ended up using a heat gun and a 2x4 piece of wood..
Put the gun close to the plastic, pull back a little and scrape off plastic with the end
of the wood. The wood won't scratch the SS and didn't discolor the header.

The plastic removed very easily with no ill effects..

A quick clean with Mothers Metal cleaner and their back to looking new..

Yup. Happened to me once on my 78 KZ1000.
I'm wondering what the hell is that stinky smell!

Just crap in the roadway. It was small and it was raining lightly.
Even with a fender extender, probably wet, the ft tire kicked it up.
It was on the RS outer header tube, midway..

Was the heat gun necessary? I would think that the heat from the header pipe and the same wooden scraper would have done the trick, no?

The heat gun was indeed necessary.

I had it set on high, maybe an inch away, moving slowly (likely 6-10 seconds).

And with that, I still had to make several passes with the wood
and more heat. When most if it was off, heat and a rag took off the rest..
