Re: Protest ride against mandatory motorcycle inspections

Great cause Andre, and it will definately be memorable with so many bikes taking part

BTW for the guys in the UK that all ready have the yearly MOT test, the new regulations are more stringent than the old MOT ones, read this, which will probably mean that only the dealers will be able to carry out this "specialist" test.

Unfortunately I have several things planned for Saturday otherwise I would have joined you :(.

Do you know roughly what time the whole thing will be finishing, I can't seem to find that anywhere

That's right Martin, we should all join our local MAG's, as those organisations do exactly what their name says: Motorcycle Action Groups. And we'll need some action to fend of all the Euro sh... erm rules and legislation coming our way.

This ride was organised by the NL en BE MAG. Riders assembled on the Belgium border. From there we headed towards Brussels. The destination was the famous Atomium expo area. A very well organised action, junctions were blocked and also highway onramps. At the location there were speakers from MAG organisation from ceveral countries. There was one EU-bureaucrat present, Wim van der Camp, as a rider himself he's already against the plans.

There was some media coverage, mostly Belgium.

On youtube there's enough coverage:

Somehow the images I linked aren't visible??

Well it seems to have helped
Yesterday the transport ministers from all EU countries met in luxemburg and the majority disagreed with the EU proposals (in their current form) :cheer:

It had previously been made known that both the Dutch and the French government were against these proposals.

I got this info from the Dutch anwb/promotor site:
Meerderheid EU negatief over APK-plicht | ANWB Motor

Schultz verwacht forse strijd tegen APK-plan | ANWB Motor

Tweede Kamer tegen EU-bemoeienis APK | ANWB Motor

I'm sure it must be on an English site but I just can't find it yet.

Thanks for taking part Tim, it means that after all the recent budget cuts I won't have to pay out extra for a roadworthiness test as well

...... My rear end is famous.

Did they get your good side :rof:

It worked (for the time being)! Link
EU member states have drafted significant changes to the Commission’s proposal for a regulation on periodic roadworthiness tests. Following their Council meeting they suggest to turn the regulation into a directive and, partly in response to the pressure of motorcyclists' associations, to continue to leave it to the discretion of a member state to require periodic roadworthiness tests (RWT) for motorcycles.

I attended the rally in Helsinki; we had around 300 bikes riding in formation through downtown Helsinki with police escorts and finishing in front of the Parliament House. It was an awesome experience, as there were all kinds of bikes and riders - everything from sportsbikers to Hell's Angels to young women on latte-coloured Vespas and grizzled adventure riders on battered BMWs.

That's great, at least all of the rallys were not in vain

Unfortunately they are going to make it into a directive, which still means it could still rear its ugly head at a later date :(

Sorry to say all the protesting hasn't helped our cause :(...:(....:(....:spank:

The mandatory motorbike test has been voted in by the EU :banghead::banghead:

Here's the link

Those 2 Belgian MEPs better don't come close to any bike event...:mad:
It's just another way to rip people off
No way I will get in line for inspection! Sometimes it takes over 2-3hours (e.g. In Ghent) to get through the waiting cue with your car  Couple that with our "beautiful" Belgian weather....

Grtz,
