Sold my FZ6 to a very happy couple. The husband has an XJR 1300 and the FZ6 was supposed to be his wife’s first bike. After he took it for a test ride he had to admit he would often sneak a ride on it for himself…

Have had it for 16 years - my first bike. Bought it 2nd hand and it was an amazing deal. Have enjoyed, over the years, making it a little better with various parts.
Was weird to see it go. Bike was also a part of meeting my wife 8 years ago since part of the date was giving her a backseat ride - I guess it wasn’t that bad ;)

Really want to write a BIG thanks to all the people in here. Since 2010 the FZ6 has never been to a shop. Simply wasn’t necessary with the combo of my own skills, the service manual and (especially) this extremely helpful forum. So much knowledge about the FZ6 packed in here. I recommended the new owner to look at this forum to get to know his bike a lot better.
I thought about this forum when new owner, after his testride, said the bike just won him over.
As this bike has been a 99% commuter I haven’t been high gloss polishing it but mechanically it’s just about as good as any bike with 83.000 km on it could be.

Haven’t posted much in the last 1-2 years cause I been busy with so many other things - mainly working more and also renovating bits and pieces of the house we moved into in mid 2022. In 2023 I rode nearly 0 km on the FZ6 due to moving very close to my work. I just take a bicycle now. FZ6 was a joyful commuter and I just too rarely took it for a Sunday spin.

I won’t be buying another bike in 2023. I will try to feel how much I really want one… During the coming Winter I’ll probably be spending so much time looking at bikes online that my wife will be begging me “please just buy it”… just like she did 4 years ago when I bought the Tesla Model 3.

Having owned the Tesla this long has kind of ruined ICE a bit for me - including ICE bikes. I think next bike is likely an Energica Ribelle (EV). Had a testride in 2022 and it was spectacular. Since I would very very rarely go for a long trip with multiple charging stops, almost always just charge at home, the worst downside just isn’t there. Also when wife is sometimes on the backseat she will very much enjoy not having her clothes and hair smelling like gasoline :)

With that said the FZ6 was still a blast when I took it for my last ride in it a few days ago.
It’s been gone for less than half a day but I already miss it. But still it was almost more sad to watch it just stand there in the middle of the garage while I went to and from the garage to pickup tools for house renovations or gardening.

Attached is my very last picture of it strapped down on new owners trailer. Other picture is from the sales add.

To you newer FZ6 riders:
Swap the front springs to a harder set and also install steelbraided brake lines => This practically instantly removes the 2 biggest downsides of the FZ6 which I believe is the terribly diving front end + spongy brake feel. On the few track course days I attended I could, on the fast straight line brake tests, brake faster than most other people - and this is without ABS.
Attend a track course now and then with your FZ6. It has more potential than you think and it helps make everyday rides so much better. If you have owned an FZ6 for a few years and think it’s getting boring then take it for a track course - it will surprise you!
