Yamaha Lock Re-key Instructions
*Place a light colored towel (or similar) to work on the assembly as there’s many, very small parts*
(1) Remove the rear cover by removing the two phillips head screws.
(2) Remove the cam and spring by pulling outward, (make note of the position).
(3) Looking inside at the cylinder, there is a retainer clip (copper colored) that must be pushed inward.
With the clip pushed inward the lock cylinder can now be pushed out. Go slow as there’s numerous small tumblers & springs.
(4) There are five “tumblers” that have to be removed & moved about or filed down so when YOUR key inserts ALL tumblers are flush on both sides of the cylinder when your key is inserted
or the cylinder will not turn. You can leave 2-3 out if need be, the assembly will still work.
*Note, the copper looking retainer will stay in the cylinder, popping outward some but retained, do not remove/or damage.*
(5) Once all the tumblers are even in the cylinder with your key installed it’s ready to be re-installed in the lock housing.
(6) With your key PARTIALLY in the cylinder, push in the copper retainer (pick or small flat screw driver) and gently push it back into the housing. The copper retainer will hold the cylinder in and the lock.
With your key in, it should rotate, approx 1/8 turn.
(7) Install the cam and spring as it was originally..
(8) Install the rear cover with the two screws. Test the action of the lock “loop” that it opens and locks.
All done!
