Okay. I solved my own problem. I removed the master cylinder which was very easy. I must have broken off the tab when I was removing the original switch. I pried it out with a small screwdriver. The switch went in easily.

I've been trying to read all the dual headlight posts but I think I'm missing something.
Wouldn't it be easy to to attach a wire from the hot low beam lead on the left bulb to the low beam terminal on the right?
I checked the serial number and it is the same that is on the Yamaha parts catalog. The old switch seems to have the nub removed. I can't figure out if the nub broke off in the master cylinder and that's the bump I saw. Damn these failing eyes.
I'm replacing the front brake light switch under the master cylinder. The switch that I received from Yamaha has a little nub on top but the master cylinder doesn't seem to have a matching hole there. It actually looks like there is a little bump on the bottom of the master cylinder at that...
