I'll be at Streets on 5/29 with Motoyard. Still trying to figure out whether to keep my FZ6 (needs new tires after the last track day at the big track), get a GSX-R 750, or take the Concours 14 up.
I have a similar problem on a much bigger bike (Kawasaki C-14). I have taken to mounting and dismounting by leaving the bike on the kickstand, putting my left foot on the left peg, putting all my weight on it - this is the key part, you want to make sure that the kick stand and the peg are up...
Well, I don't have the same problem as the man below me, in that I've never felt the bike buck - probably because I'm not on the throttle that hard, trying to smooth it in. I think I do need more experience and more trust in the grip and clearance in order to really get on through and out of...
Hi, Misti, thanks a ton for responding. With regards to the throttle control question - I try to roll on as soon as I'm leaned over and try to roll on throughout the corner.
No argument, it's all about the rider in terms of overall lap times, and this was my very first track day. I'm sure I wouldn't have carried much more corner speed on any other bike, but having more power on the straight would definitely help.... or just allow me to get myself killed.
Yeah, 3 and 4 really do give you the best chance to touch the knee. I was the only FZ that day; when I lined up for the inspection, they told me they had 2 FZs there the last time out, and they both crashed. Gave me some motivation to ride carefully :)
Your tires are likely fine, mine were on their last breath coming into this. Very worn down the middle from highway riding, but not much wear on the sides, which is where you spend most of your time on the track. My suggestion is to do the first track day with what you got and make decisions...
This past Friday, I did my first track day at the 2.5 mile road course at Willow Springs in CA, and I wanted to share my experience with those who may be interested in what it's like to ride an FZ6 at the track.
