Your coolant temperature sensor (on the back of the cylinder head) could be faulty. Look in the Yamaha Service or Haynes manuals for the procedure to test it.

IIRC the S2 cluster can just be unbolted. The S1 (round version) needed to be cut open as it was glued closed :(

If it's an S2, you need the PLX 360 kit, the 351 was for the S1 model. Try checking out Bike Breakers.
