Attention R6 Fork Riders! Settings Wanted!

Forks are flush up with the top triple, but I might move them down a bit to see how much quicker I can get the bike to turn in. I never measured sag on the front and the rear spring is just slightly too hard. Static sag is 5mm and rider is 25mm in the rear. I never checked the front because what...

Fixing Throttle Chop, snatch, rewet, response time. Cheap!

Figured I would post in this thread so everyone can have more reason to advance their timing. I had ordered a second trigger plate so I could always keep a stock trigger plate in case I wanted to go back. I filed the plate and got it installed tonight. I'm letting the thread locker set for over...

Attention R6 Fork Riders! Settings Wanted!

I actually changed things up quite a bit. I read a different guide to get my suspension set up because I was also dialing in the R1 rear shock I installed. The overall settings I settled on are: Rear shock (R1 w/ FZ6 spring): Preload = 1 Compression = 8 clicks out Rebound = 8 clicks out Forks...

First Time at the Drag Strip

It would be only if the power from 12k to redline is LESS than what it would be at the RPM resulting from the downshift. That depends partially upon the torque curve of the motor, and with how steep our curve gets high in the RPM's I doubt it would be worth it on our bike. With a flatter torque...

First Time at the Drag Strip

That's why I love motorcycles so much. These cheaper bikes still run pretty damn well and put quite a few more expensive cars to shame. @Op, when out on the road try giving it wot and VERY quickly flick your wrist while pressing up on the shift peg. I've done clutchless shifting at lower paces...

Went for a ride with no wind screen today...

Going naked gives you smoother air. There is definitely more of it than if you kept your fairings on, but I've really only noticed it when riding in the cold (less wind protection). The bugs will increase a bit, but honestly speaking I'm noticing basically the same amount from when my bike was...

    My first track day

This is a big thing I would recommend for track day riders. Now I've never done one myself, but I'm very interested and would love to (just haven't gotten around to it yet). Wear your gear for a few rides BEFORE you head to the track. Gloves and boots can have a completely different feel if...

    Front end parts

Re: Brake rotor, triple trees, front fender Glad everything worked out for you! Enjoy the FZ6!

Went for a ride with no wind screen today...

If you ride around twilight time, the bugs definitely get worse. But I always got hit by bugs even before I went naked so I don't even notice a difference. I love the smooth air though, it's so nice.

    R1 shock punch list

I actually completed my R1 shock install today (fine tuned the rebound and compression damping settings) and it's like I bought a brand new bike. The thing rides on rails now and is so predictable even with uneven terrain mid-corner. The only thing I have to add to your list is that you don't...

    Dominator Style Headlights

I used a dominator headlight when I did my naked conversion and I changed the connectors so each light used an H4 bulb with it's own connection like the original harness. The nice part about doing it this way is that the functionality of the BD43 mod is unchanged.

    Front end parts

I have the fairing from a blue 04 that I won't be needing anymore. I did my naked conversion this past winter and I love it. Edit: actually, I have everything you need except the fender. I did the R6 fork and caliper conversion and I used the original FZ6 fender. Aside from that, I've got the...

Do you ever coast in N at higher speeds? Trans clunk hard when shifting back into 2nd?

I'd bet the fuel usage difference between high gear w/ closed throttle vs. clutch idling is negligible. Who cares which way people do it? If someone has the clutch pulled in and they are in the correct gear, it would take equal or less time to get back on the power in an emergency than it would...

    New Rider/ Gear Advice

I bought Alpinestars SMX1 boots this season and really like them so far. They are comfortable when riding or walking and are faster to put on and take off than my tennis shoes while offering much more protection in a crash. They aren't a full race boot though, so there are definitely safer boots...

    Downsides to going naked?

A lot of it comes down to personal preference for the looks, but I have to agree with the easier cleaning so far. A simple wipe down usually gets my bike looking brand new.

**Looking to trade for Naked Setup

I mistyped my first post. My parts are from an S1, and yours is an S2. Sorry about the typo!

Thinking of trading FZ6 for Ninja Z1000SX (sport tour) or FJ09 (MT09)

The motor on the FJ is supposed to be an absolute beast. They tweaked the fuel mapping from the FZ09 and that instrument panel is just so nice. That bike should power wheelie through at least 2 gears when you get on it, so power is no problem. It's also got the features you're looking for and...

    May 2015 Consumer Reports ratings

I would gladly buy another Yamaha. In fact, the 2015 R1 has tickled my fancy ever since it was announced. I would like to get a bike with a bit more soul (think European made), but the Japanese made bikes are just such great performers and are much easier on maintenance.

    Air Box Mod, Sounds Good!

Agreed. Cutting the box helps with the factory restriction and changing filters should help with filter restriction. Keep in mind though, most people on this forum actually dislike the K&N filter because while it does provide increased airflow, the filtration properties leave something to be...

    Downsides to going naked?

It probably depends upon where you live and when you ride. Lots of bugs come out at night, and different parts of the U.S. (or world) are buggier than others. I can't at I've noticed any increase in bugs after going naked because the original half fairing never really spotted many bugs to begin...
