I learned the hard way - new bike, _very_ first thing I do is make a key copy, test it, and then put it away in a drawer (ALL cycle/car keys are in that drawer!)

Then I lucked out - there were some for sale on Amazon a few yrs back, think they were mentioned on this forum, and I snatched one. Have not regretted it.

I think @TownsendsFJR1300 at one point mentioned a spray paint that was _close_ to the existing frame-color (silver), if you wanted to try to keep it the same. I have nothing to offer re: results/methods.

I know the fairing takes a beating on this forums - both for looks and for wind-buffeting - but I have to agree with Andz, I prefer it faired and think it looks just fine for my purposes. I don't mind the naked looks, but they don't appeal to me as much. If you can find some used fairing kit...

I did balance them with a vacuum gauge. Didn't spend hours on it, but it was pretty close. I didn't run it much before the engine/trans rebuild, but I seem to recall it did the same behavior. I only cleaned carb, did not rebuild - but DID replace the emulsion tubes, and adjusted float height...

True, but if I'm doing that (grease gun), I already know I'm replacing the seals.

If I don't buy the motion pro tool, am totally trying this next time. The downside of the grease gun method, while sure-fire, is the aftermath cleanup in all the nooks n crannies.

Respectfully beg to differ on this, but it certainly becomes harder. I've pulled 1 piston, take the seals out and cleaned up the piston, put it back in and clamped it (C-clamps, wood shims and paint stir sticks.... you get the idea) to keep pressure in for the remaining pistons. Not...
