I basically have three 1-2 inch pieces of metal plate with holes drilled in each end. You can mount them between the headlight housing and the small metal subframe. Make the lower one longer and it'll raise your beam.

I wanted to ensure that it had something to bite into without overtorquing the screws (potentially cracking the handles).

Grind it off and put a layer or two of electrical tape on the bar. It's what I did for my clipons - instead of drilling them. Never moves, and was way easier than drilling it properly and getting it in the right place.
