Cool interview with Keith Code- tons of info about Trailbraking :D
From MotoMom | Motorcycle racing, riding skills and technique, moto kids & parenting
There is a lot of misunderstanding about the technique of trail braking; specifically people seem to be either for using trail braking, or...
Aure, push pull combo helps! I find you really have to utilize this when you are flicking the bike through a high speed chicane. How can you utilize your lower body to help give you more strength/effectiveness in your push or pull though?
Being able to see more of the traffic in front of you and around you definitely helps with your perception of speed. Your sense of speed goes up if you have a narrow field of view or if you are looking down at the road and not far enough ahead of you. But one thing that can happen regardless...
Hahaha, yes hard to remember two days ago but good practice to pay attention and figure out exactly what you are doing on the bike. I push to initiate lean into the turns and to stand the bike up coming out of turns, most of the time it is push only for me but when speeds pick up and I really...
Hahaha even if you are driving your car like a "pensioner" you could still practice some visual skills that would help with riding. Pay attention to how far ahead you are looking when driving, do you notice things that are happening way ahead of you or are you staring at the bumper in front of...
Stompgrip helps a great deal but so does gripping the tank with both knees, making small movements with your lower body, not hanging off too far, and sitting back in the seat a little bit so that your knee fits tightly into the tank cut out and has the strongest part pressing into the tank...
Cool. I put the part about "maybe wasting the track instructors time" in the article because I find that it is a misconception that a lot of riders have. They tend to think that they need to be at a certain level of riding in order to take CSS because they are worried about being too slow or...
Hmmmmm, good point. Perception of speed is a pretty important skill :) So when you do take a break and then get back into riding what might be something you could do in order to brush up on your speed perception? Or how might you be able to keep your perception of speed sharp even when you...
Bizarre, no mention of using the handlebar to steer the bike and several other things that I don't really agree with.
Hahah crotch cooling, warning others ;) I personally don't do the chicken leg spread during hard braking but prefer to grip the tank with both legs so that I don't slide...
What about the first skill to go? If you take a break from riding, what is the first skill that becomes rusty? Or the hardest one to get back after time away?
I didn't read all the posts but I would agree with the SV650!! Great bike, cheap, lots available and super fun to ride. The SV was my first track/race bike and I am so happy that I took that route. I have nothing bad to say about the SV at all, it was tried and true and crash tested and...
I understand not limiting your track riding to CSS ;) You may find that doing another level or two will really help up your overall confidence to be able to ride track days better with less fear. Level 2 specifically focusses on visual skills and those are SOOOO important to track and road...
I don't have a lot of experience with track days for the same reason. I have never felt particularly safe and I don't enjoy being passed that closely by riders that don't have the same skill level as the people I'm used to racing against.
Perhaps a riding school is in order? As a coach...
I'd agree that "hanging off" in the sense of hanging your ass way off the seat and stretching your leg out to try to get a knee on the deck while street riding is not necessary. Too many riders try to do it just to look cool or get a knee down and on the street and at street acceptable speeds...
Good points, anytime you are feeling a bit out of control it's time to take it down a notch. I just had that exact experience while riding motocross. I was trying to ride faster and feeling like I was getting better but then I hit the whoops a little wrong and got all bent out of shape. I...
I think there needs to be a little clarification of what "hanging off" does to the bike. "hanging" your body won't pull the bike to the ground. How does your body position influence how much lean angle you have?
