Brake Pistons??

Hi,

Can anyone help me find out the size of the brake pistons on 2008 FZ6 Fazer S2 . The front calipers are the 4 piston type not the earlier two piston. I have asked a number of Yamaha dealers with no Luck. I can get them replaced by them at a cost of £570. Which i think is to much.

I have found a company that do piston & seals for Yamaha but they need the OD & Length measurements of the pistons. The only option I have is to take them out and measure myself which would be a big pain as i use the bike nearly everyday and would like to take it off the road a short time to replace myself all in one go.

I use my bike all year round and recently had a new front tire put on and was told that my pistons have rusted. At present they would fail an MOT.

What is wrong with "your" pistons? Are your seals leaking?

No the seals are ok as far as I can see. Because of all the bad weather we had in the winter in the UK and all the salt on the roads, the ends of the pistons that contact the brake pads have rusted. I haven't been able to look at each of them yet, but I was told there are a few that need replacing when i have the new front wheel put on.

I am trying to find out the sizes of the pistons as i believe there are two different sizes per caliper and i have had a quote of £360 to replace them all from Yamaha dealers. The original quote i got included the calipers to but they are fine, so only need the pistons and seals. I have found a company that do a kit for a piston & seals for around £20 per kit. But they need the sizes.

Yamaha don't give out this info so that you have to but there's. So annoying!!:banghead:

Not sure but sounds a bit fishey to me. If they are a bit rusty you should be able to "dust off" the end and call it good. They would have to be very rusted to be unserviceable. IMO

Yeah, i've been thinking this?! Thank you for ur thoughts! I'm definatly going to take the brakes off and have a proper look and clean to see whats what!!
