    When to Downshift into 1st

I'm confused -- what's all this about the rear sliding when downshifting into 1st above 20mph? Are people downshifting without rev-matching or blipping the throttle? I used to try to match the revs manually when I first started riding, but blipping the throttle right before dropping the...

Why are squids attracted to the Gixxers?

They're fast, cheap, and they look cool. They also happen to be pretty damn good bikes. Nothing beats the 750 in terms of price/performance and the 600 is the top choice in a lot of comparison reviews, so I can't really blame them for choosing either one. If I were going to upgrade, a...

    FZ6 Price Check

It could be worth less than half that much depending on how well it was stored. At 6 years old with only a few hundred miles, I wouldn't go near that thing without a good warranty or an inspection by a mechanic of your choosing.

Who else ONLY has their FZ6?

The FZ6 is all I've got. Well, that and my sneakers. No kids, no pets, and work is within walking distane. It would cost me over $3,000/year to park a car here. Garage parking, that is. The thought of leaving any sort of vehicle on the streets of Philadelphia overnight makes me shudder.

    Is This A Good Deal?

Great deal if it's actually in good condition, especially since he said OBO. I could easily sell that bike here for $3,500+.

Spraying bike with a hose, what to cover?

Lots of useful advice, thanks everybody. I'll try to remember not to fill the exhaust with soapy water, although I was really looking forward to making all the little kids jealous with dual bubble streams shooting out my ass. Oh well...

Spraying bike with a hose, what to cover?

I've seen a lot of people say you need to cover the ignition and exhaust openings if you're going to be washing a motorcycle with a hose. Is there anything else that should be covered, or anything to avoid spraying directly with the hose?

Yamaha FZ6 (S2): One year ownership review

Except a motorcycle isn't a car, and the fact that you need to use a 7' tall person as an example shows how poor that analogy is. I bought my FZ6 from someone 6"-7" shorter than me and I'm perfectly comfortable even on non-stop 3 hour trips.

Yamaha FZ6 (S2): One year ownership review

What!? You gotta get out of your head, man! Spending so much time up there isn't good for your health. People of all different sizes ride stock FZ6s with no ergonomic issues. If you start looking for faults, you're bound to find them because the perfect bike doesn't exist. Sometimes you just...

    What is it with people

"Oh, really? At least they weren't too afraid to live." *Co-worker walks away with a bewildered look on their face*

Do you ride the shoulder in traffic jams?

Wtf? How are the two related? A motorcycle w/rider is less than half the width of the average car, and a motorcycle can move off the shoulder much more easily if an emergency vehicle needs to get by. "Hey, lemme drive my 6.5' wide car down this 5' shoulder." Yeah, makes perfect sense :rolleyes...

Do you ride the shoulder in traffic jams?

And if you do, have you ever been pulled over for it? I've never done it myself, but I see a lot of other motorcyclists in the Philly and NJ area doing it. Seems pretty harmless as long as you keep it slow, but I'm wondering if police feel the same way about it. I think you can get a few points...

What do you think is more important: strict gear requirements or rider education?

I took the MSF course before I got my bike, and I wear full gear (including high-viz jacket and helmet) whenever I'll be going on a fast and/or dangerous road -- "fast" to me being 35 MPH speed limit or above. I just don't want to leave my helmet out of my sight for long periods of time because...

What do you think is more important: strict gear requirements or rider education?

You're just required to wear one in NJ. But if you're riding your motorcycle to the beach you only have two choices: Let it sit on your towel so someone can steal it while you're swimming, or let it sit on the motorcycle so someone can cut it off while you're on the beach. There are plenty of...

What do you think is more important: strict gear requirements or rider education?

My vote goes to education. The purpose of law is to protect people from each other, not from themselves. I'm perfectly capable of weighing risks and making rational decisions for myself, as are all other adults with fully functioning brains. I really don't like leaving my helmet sitting on my...
