Just throwing this out there...
I'm not going to be the guy who says "don't pin your bike" because I'm not that guy. I like to hit a high speed every once in a while just like any other rider. That said, there is a great place by my house where no cops sit and it is pin straight for 2 miles...
You should be fine as long as the mechanic is competent.
After fixing mine (same way they're going to fix yours) my bike has not had the problem. It looked to me like they just did a crappy job sealing and packing the conections under the seat for the '08 models. Crappy job by Yamaha...but it...
K&N is nice for oil...i won't claim that it is better, but the metric nut they weld on the end is enough of a reason to buy their filter.
For oil I have been using Mobile-1 Turbo Diesel Truck (5W-40)...shifts smoother than Yamalube (in my opinion).
Good Luck!
That is a really good article. I have learned in rural PA to distrust speed-limit signs and to think of stop signs as an annoyance...instead of an important warning to stop. Also, the statement about recieving more speeding warnings on days with perfect driving conditions is true. The law...
This happened today and I feel like it fits with the theme of F*ing stupid people...
I had some jerkoff following me and my buddy when we were crusing on some beautiful twisties down by the Clarion river. We weren't pushing things by any standard, but the bends were definitely a bit rough on a...
I personally wear a good comfortable pair of basketball shorts with the Icon Arc Mesh pants over the top.
Icon Arc Mesh Overpant
Keeps me pretty comfortable and I feel safe (if you leave the removable padding in).
Dirt skills are the best to learn simply because if you are wearing the right gear you can push yourself way beyond your safe riding limits and, most of the time, end up with nothing but bruises and broken clutch levers.
The advice on standing up all of the time is the best. It may feel strange...
Oh dear...here goes my list.
Cage
Ford Explorer : 2 deer...both at high speeds...fly like a golf-ball at a driving range
Ford Ranger : 1 deer, 2 opossums (those things are dumb), and an unfortunate squirrel
Audi A4 : 1 deer (but it hit into the side of my car...so I don't know about counting...
I think the GS would be a great first bike as well. Check with your insurance company though. I saw you had mentioned the FZ being below the 600 mark but many insurance companies are not using that yardstick anymore for price. They count per cc...period (State Farm does anyways).
That said I've...
I rode a bandit of about the same year and the FZ-6 is more fun...in my humble opinion. Either way, it definitely sounds like you have the requisite experience on a bike to enjoy the thing without killing yourself.
The only question that I would have if I were you pertains to your size. I am...
As a rider I would put my street experience at novice...but I have a ton of dirt experience. Not everything translates over to the road...so I would suggest riding a bike around (whatever you can get your hands on) for about an hour just to get your comfort level. If you cannot completely relax...
Glad everyone is ok....this has been a really crappy month for the forum. Seemse like there's a new thread every day about someone biffing it. I'll second (or third or fourth or whatever) the notion that a crash specific area might be a good idea.
Get your stuff fixed and get back out there! I...
