    Need help identifying a part

Yikes. To my eye that looks like part of the engine casing itself. Image below of an 'intact' case.

Do you ride solo or in groups?

Very cool! I am definitely interested! Thanks for sharing all of this info. I know the area a bit, having just spent a few days in October riding with some buddies there... camped nearby in Blackwater Falls State Park. I can vouch for the amazing WV roads!

Lets Talk About the Stupid Lights

Just some info, may not apply to you. But I recently replaced my LED headlights. Nothing wrong with my existing lights, but the new ones were supposedly brighter. Anyway, I was running a low beam jumper from the H7 to the H4 to have both on at the same time. Swapped in the new bulbs, went for...

I Don't even recognize myself anymore...

Thanks guys. I had heard rumors, but I’m finding out just how expensive BMW ownership really is. Will definitely be doing my own maintenance! Cliff- I haven’t done many trails or off-roading before, aside from the occasional gravel/fire road... but eager to start! BMW- bring my wallet...

    R.I.P Wolfman

Sad to hear this. I did not know him at all, except from his postings here. F*** Cancer. R.I.P. Wolfman.

I Don't even recognize myself anymore...

Thx, and I agree on that last statement. Sure, I can do a little more off-road on the F, but I don’t plan on it. I ride mostly pavement and haul camping gear and supplies. Both bikes do both well. One thing I look forward to doing is wearing out these dual purpose tires and putting on a...

I Don't even recognize myself anymore...

I'm a Yamaha guy. Always have been. First bike was a 1983 XS400 Maxim. I've found Yamaha's are easy to work on and parts are available, generally. Love my 05 FZ6. I've put 50K miles on it since I bought in 2012. Perfectly set up for touring, camping, etc, and does everything I want it to...

    Throttle stuck in closed position

Welcome! Nope, not normal. Throttle should move freely whether or not engine is running. Something’s not right.

    What's this hose for??

That’s one of the 4 hoses used to sync the throttle bodies. Plugged during normal use.

    Acceptable Level of Vibs

OP stated they did do the sync, and checked the plug wires. But not sure how you ‘checked’ them... so following above link is a good start. It’s probably motor related... but check wheel balance too just to rule it out. I have an ‘05, and haven’t had any issues with vibrations, so something...

Clicking noise when moving in reverse

Is that your pic? You may want to start by cleaning the chain. Maybe you just have some grit in the wrong place making noise. Or the chain is toast, which you stated already. But either way...clean all that old grease and grime from the sprockets and chain.

    Difference in these bars....?

    WITH the risers.

    Difference in these bars....?

That might be some kind of record, replying to an 11 year old thread! FZ1 bars are excellent, IMO...with up and back risers of course. The wrist angle of the stock FZ6 bars was my issue, just not natural at all. The FZ1 bars solve that, but then you're leaning too far forward, as you noticed...

Build your own Manometer for Throttle Body Sync!

Weird. Maybe remove the airbox, and perform a good visual inspection of the throttle body seating surfaces, look for anything preventing a seal. Although I fail to see how a vacuum leak there would result in bubbling back at your manometer. I read somewhere to spray the throttle body area...

    Sold my baby blue...

Three years into the Tracer...How about a summary review? Obviously you prefer it over the FZ6 since you only rode it 3 times since! I'm losing sleep at night contemplating getting a new 2019 Tracer at rock bottom prices nearby... need some words of encouragement or discouragement. FWIW, my 05...

Build your own Manometer for Throttle Body Sync!

The hose(s) coming from the throttle bodies that you hook up to could be cracked; an air leak upstream of them would be unlikely.

Build your own Manometer for Throttle Body Sync!

Again, sound like a leak. You should not have bubbles! I had none. If it were air tight, where would the bubbles come from? I’ll let someone else come in.

Build your own Manometer for Throttle Body Sync!

I believe it’s clockwise to lower the vacuum. Really sounds like you have an air leak in your setup though if you got no results turning the screw. I barely had to move them.

Build your own Manometer for Throttle Body Sync!

My #4 shot up 24” or more right away but settled out. I purposely had about 8 feet of tubing for each cylinder just in case. Maybe you’re just waaaay out of sync?
