    What is that noise?

    The thing is - if I had no chain issue/noise _before_ the pressure plate exploded - why would I now? It seems to me that either it is 1) something that _caused_ the pressure plate to die (unlikely), 2) something as a _result_ of the pressure plate dying (more likely), or 3) something I...

    What is that noise?

    I'm thinking the same, Scott - but I might not be looking in the right place (or just not seeing it). Should probably take another look at the starter clutch as well. I've had the clutch cover off 5+ times, trying different approaches. As for pieces... as far as I can tell, I got it all, but...

    What is that noise?

    I was about 2 miles from home, on a 4-lane highway... blipped the front brake as traffic was backed up b/c of a left-hand turn lane... and bike made kind of a weird noise, almost like a radiator fan was rubbing... but it rose/fell with the engine/throttle. But it wasn't bad. Then was going up...

    Question Chain lube

    I've used both Maxima chain was and Honda Pro lube - I'm agnostic at this point, no strong feelings either way.

    What is that noise?

    Asking for any assistance that can be rendered, as I'm currently striking out. This project (being going on for a bit, I know), a 1990 Yamaha FZR600, has been back on the road and doing well - or so I thought. On a rather uneventful ride - an errand, really, on my birthday - about a mile from...

    My Winter Project

    I would read weekly updates of this story. Great opening chapter!

    Mileage register (High and Low)

    49,700 miles (after recent trip to Canada) on my '05 (purchased with 23k on it)

    ~~~ What did you do to your Bike Today Thread??? ~~~
    Sitting at just over 47,000 miles. Just put new Michelin Road 5 tires (they dropped "pilot" from the name) on front and rear. Will change oil/filter tomorrow. I _might_ be gearing up for a trip. Taking kid to UVM, and am considering either 1) renting a bike there and going into Canada or 2)...
    "New" ride for me (non-FZ6)
    Correct. $76 is peanuts when dealing with a free scooter than is conceivably worth $1000+, just to get it into the "system". It's funny, though - I pulled the CL add, and will keep until next Spring at least. I'm over 1100 miles now (got it with 70), just keep using it for errands about town.
    "New" ride for me (non-FZ6)
    This is a good question - I'll let you know in April 2022, which is when the tag has to be renewed. I _assume_ they send me something, but this is a new experience. Plus which though - don't states have laws about how long you can keep a vehicle licensed with another state? I figure I'll...
    "New" ride for me (non-FZ6)
    It's definitely fun. I have to think I look a little funny riding it, but - not caring. I found a PDF of the manual, and the maintenance schedule seems aggressive. Maybe normal for a small engine like this? Oil change every 600 miles, and (!) valve clearance/can chain chk every 2k-3k miles...
    "New" ride for me (non-FZ6)
    I'm not just riding my FZ6 (new Road 5 tires on the way in order to pass inspection) these days... an ex-coworker gave a not-running 2009 150cc scooter to me a number of months ago. It has many names (Znen/Lance Milan/Komoto), but it's the basic GY-6 engine setup coming out of China. It...
    I'm back!....
    There was a recent thread on exhausts.... including a place that can still get Scorps apparently. 1400 miles, that's crazy, sounds like a nice renewal project.
    1987 FZ600
    This might be the nudge I need. I'm still "in progress" of a '90 FZR600 fixup. I'm down to plastics and an oil leak at a gasket (on order). The current carb adjustment is _decent_ but not perfect. Really pulls well over 6k, so I think that means the main jets are good, but I think my needle...
    Engine Cutting out randomly
    Can't tell you - after having this happen to me, and replacing it - how super-ultra-rarely I use my kill switch. Like, more times by _accident_ than on purpose. Not sure if that's the correct moral of the story, but there we have it.
    What is this bike?
    Feels like I should have been able to figure that. Thanks Gary.... it's been interesting to hear about my various uncles' motorcycle past.
    What is this bike?
    Side note - I found out today that another of my uncle's owned - and just sold, unbeknownst to me - a 1955 Triumph Tiger 100 that he'd had stored in his barn for 30+ years.... argh!
    What is this bike?
    Short-form background - we had a mini family reunion, and my Mom was trying to get us kids to take some of her photos. I ended up with this one, below. It is my uncle, reportedly when he was 18 years-old (so we believe about 1942). Anyone care to guess what sort of bike he is on? To be...
    FZ6 RESTO.
    Love the sentiment there! I'm a sucker for bringing-bikes-back-to-life/recovery stories. I'm by no means skilled, but have fumbled my way through a few of them, to have (not pristine/show horses but) daily drivers with bikes from 1980s/1990s. I think I've given up my idea of moving on to...
