    Steering doesn't feel right.

To align the fork tubes with each other: 1) loosen all attachment points between the fork legs and anything else EXCEPT the lower triple clamp. Axle, fender, brake calipers, and UPPER TRIPLE CLAMP ONLY 2) sit on the bike, engage the front brake, and compress the front suspension multiple...

    Looseness in rear wheel

I don't think wheel bearings would give you movement in one direction only. My guess is the axle is not torqued down correctly, allowing some slight movement in the plane of the adjustment. (3 O'clock to 9 O'clock). Movement as you describe is a bad thing..... I agree that you should inspect...

    changing fork oil/seals

Changing the oil involves taking the fork legs off the bike. You have to remove the wheel, fender, brake calipers, to be able to slide the legs out of the triple clamps. If you are seeing a ring of oil on one of your fork legs, sort of like a high water mark.... that's your seal leaking on...

Poor MPG: Things are not always as they appear to be...

Thanks for that. I actually can't offer much on this particular issue.... I would have stayed with the OEM plugs and not messed with anything at all, until such time as the MPG actually started to drop. I had 25K miles on my FZ6 when I sold it, still on the plugs installed by Yamaha at the...

I got something inside my rear tire?

I agree with Scott and company. It is not a good idea to hope your tire continues to work. Better to fix whatever is wrong. My guess is you hit something that punctured the tire, and most of it broke off on the inside. Probably a bit of glass. A piece is still in the belts, plugging the hole...

    Removing the top triple clamp

I'd suggest loosening both triples, and sliding the fork legs 'down' out of the upper... slide on your clip on mounts, and then slide the tubes back into place. If you go this route, you will be far enough into it to service the fork. Swap out the fluid, potentially upgrade the fork springs...

A question for my fellow Bad Weather Riders

If at all possible, I would stick with keeping my tires in the tracks made by other vehicles. The tires of those other road users will tend to 'scrub' the pavement, and offer the most likely traction available. If you are the sole party on the road, I'd still be thinking of using the tire...

I can go to Costco now

If you ever need a cheap lunch, it's tough to beat a slice of their pizza. Unless you decide to have a hot dog and a soda pop. Or split the cost of an entire pizza four ways with your buddies. Or maybe buy a rotisserie chicken and split that with someone... Or just browse the samples, LOL...

    HID Projector Color Temp

I'm not trying to change your mind about anything. You'll do as you see fit, and it will most likely work as you desire. I can almost certainly tell you that my perception of light is not the same as yours... unless you have passed 45 years of age. I do not see as much of the yellow end of the...

    HID Projector Color Temp

To each their own. HID produce 3X the amount of light a Halogen does. Personally, I'm more interested in more light that I can use, than I am in advertising that I have done something different to my vehicle.

    HID Projector Color Temp

4300 is closest to the spectrum that the human eye sees. The higher the number, the more blue there is in the light.

    engine rpm

^^ +5 If you operate a motor at 85% of redline (instead of constantly on the redline), you will more than double it's service life. 75% of redline will effectively double that again.

    sunglasses for riding?

I generally ride wearing a pair of polycarbonate safety glasses under my FF helmet. Amber for low light, and tinted for full sunshine. I am not fond of the film type polarization they put on glasses now. That 'oily rainbow' effect is really distracting. Walking into a big box home...

newbie rider where I work - need suggestions

I like the FZ6 as a second bike, rather than a first one. It's still too strong/good of a bike to teach a rider to really excel at the things that a rider SHOULD be good at. Having started out off road when I was ~11 YO with 65 cc Hondas, Yamahas, etc., etc. I can tell you that I have a...

    Downshifting problems

I typically use a spray form of white lithium grease for linkages. We've got a can floating around the house from Honda. It seemed to do well enough on the Yamaha. I'll probably go over the Ninja soon and do the same.

    Strange "friction" feeling @ 22-20MPH???

^^ +2 The shudder is probably due to the wear on your chain, which you can feel much more strongly with it too tight. Some of the links are getting longer between the pins, as the pins and holes in the plates are getting bigger. This happens unevenly on the chain, which makes the felling...

Reaction Time, braking, following distance, Stopping Distance

Good find, and thanks for sharing. Distance makes the heart grow fonder..... I know how complex trying to maintain a 'safety bubble' is, on a bike. This data gives a realistic point of reference for what is involved in coming to a stop in a controlled manner. The unfortunate parts is...

    Riding on base?

After talking with a couple of other contractors that ride on base, I got to digging to see what the actual requirement is, for a non DoD/Department of the Navy, who works on base is to operate a bike, there. The Dept of Defense standard specifically says that there is not a requirement for...

    Riding on base?

Since the new bike is a lime green ZX6..... doesn't that count at high viz? Radioactive Snot seems to be the color....

    Riding on base?

Mama is quite happy with me taking a refresher course, and to be honest it never hurts to have skills appraised for any bad habits that develop since the last check.
