oops, that's another thing I've NEVER looked at on my bike... 72k miles on my 2007 fz6 and I have never removed the radiator cap.
There's a reservoir?
over 70,000 miles.... I was thinking I bet not too many people have had to replace this!
when ordering my new chain/sprockets from Yamaha, i remembered to get this for $4.66 (Cover, Shift Pedal)
ooops, I forgot to take a picture of it installed, oh well.
Yes, it was peened... and it did keep it from coming off...
I don't know why the nut was not tight though. I had no indication of this... but maybe it was the cause of the oil seal failure.
it IS tight now though!
I do get pretty good mileage compared to what others report, true!
I put the new chain on today without splitting it. I actually searched forums and YouTube for info from someone who had done it and found nothing. seems everyone was splitting and rivitting the chain. It wasn't that...
I got 45k miles on my original chain and sprockets. When I replaced with OEM chain and sprockets I was able to get a Master link from Yamaha dealer so that I could install the chain without removing the swingarm.
Now, 25k miles since, my chain started clunking like it was wore out. Since...
i'm sure someone will get a kick out of this... my notes
Maint history on my FZ6

I plan on adjusting the valves soon.... the bike runs and sounds fine, but the MPG has gone down from 46 to about 40. hopefully I won't burn a valve by putting it off.. we will see.
other than a stuck caliper, could it be that your foot is riding on the rear brake lever without you knowing it??? Adjust the lever lower if this could be the case.
I finally hit 70k Miles!
Going from 60k to 70k miles took me two years because I stopped commuting as much.
2007 FZ6 -- original owner -- lots of tires, front brakes, chain and sprockets (once at 45k miles), two clutch cables, 1 battery, 2 air cleaners, bunch of oil changes... that's...
I agree with the "work case" approach.... I commute to work. I have a backpack with my laptop. Wearing the backpack makes my back sore sometimes and I'd rather not wear it. Strapping the backpack down to the bike is time consuming and I'm always reaching back to make sure it is still...
my experience (5'10") is that more windshield is not always better.... You can't redirect enough wind over your head without creating a low pressure zone behind your helmet that will cause noise or buffeting.
With the stock windshield I had a lot of wind at chest level, and it would push me...
I got 45k miles on my original chain and sprockets... I did try to see how far I could go with the originals... so it was pretty crunchy by the time I replaced em (with another oem set of course) so it WAS a nice difference for me.
hmmm... I put 65k miles on my bike with the original sparkers
I have noticed my mileage dropped a couple mpg's recently and was wondering why (now about 43)
I'm sure I could use new plugs and should probably have the valve clearances checked.
I did change the oil every 3k miles...
