Engine Light on Deceleration

First, thanks for everyone's time, this forum has been an amazing resource so far.

I have a 2009 FZ6 S2 with about 30k miles on it. I got the bike used but its new to me and I only have about 8 months on it so far. At the end of my commute today I realized that as I was decelerating from 30/40 mph to 10/15 mph the engine light would come on. If I came to a complete stop it would stay on for a few seconds then go off in idle. The light doesn't come on as I accelerate, just when I'm coming to a stop or slowing down. This symptom wasn't happening until the last 5 mins or so of a 50 min ride. I couldn't find anything in the service manual on diagnosing this symptom. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I fear I'm in for a surprise.

Have you checked the instrument cluster to see if there are any fault codes stored? How does the bike run when this happens? If you open the throttle does it go away?

My get feeling is that it's either a wiring issue (corrosion at a connector) or a sensor failing. If the bike has been or is currently stored outdoors, that further makes me believe connector corrosion. As the bike decelerates, a wiring harness may be moving just enough to create a poor connection at a connector. Once the pressure/stress is off the harness, everything returns to normal.

Had the same thing happen on another bike but with oil pressure light. As these bikes don't have that, I would think low oil pressure would trigger engine light.
What kind of oil did you put in it?

Actually, there is no oil pressure sensor on the FZ6, so the engine light could not be low oil pressure. There is an oil level sensor mounted to the bottom of the oil pan, but that is a separate warning light. Are you certain that is it is the engine light (second from the top) and not the oil level light (top light)?
