Ergos and control

Changing the spline location does nothing for this issue. It the opening in that triangle on the rear set that limits you. So remove some material or heat and bend the lever... or buy aftermarket rear sets...

The Ottimoto rearsets appeared to be the best deal, but quite a bit of messing about.

I will give the oso2k set back plates a try. Have you considered them, Randy? Thread here.

Got the clutch side grip off. WD40, heated the grips up on full with a blanket wrapped around, leather gloves and a hell of a lot of twisting.

That technique isn't going to fly with the throttle tube :(

Getting the throttle tube free turned out to be easier. I found a cylinder with the perfect sized diameter to tap and shock it free. A dumbbell handle was perfect.

I'm not out $100 on heated grips and $20-30 on a throttle tube.

Swapped in the FZ1 bar and OMG the bike instantly goes from tame to sporty. The Renthal Road bars are quite a bit wider. I was parked next to an FJR this week and the Road Medium actually brings the handlebar height higher than the sport tourer.

Position now feels cramped towards the front of the bike with my lower body so it'll be good to get those setback plates from oso2k soon. When I'm done, it's gonna feel like a new bike. :cheer:

Raised the forks from 5 to 10mm. A little goes a long way. The balance of the bike has changed on the centerstand- it really moves some weight forward.
I'm certain sag is going to be significantly different.

Rode with the FZ1 bar and 10mm lowered front end yesterday. Bike feels much different. Now it goes where I look rather than having to be really assertive with the bars.

With the Renthal Road Med and 5mm lowered, the front had been feeling loose, it would wobble over poor road surfaces especially when the tires were still cold and need really deliberate and maybe excessive bar input to turn.

After looking this up, I now know what "understeering" is! :D Apparently this can be caused by insufficient sag up front.

After all that effort to switch back to the FZ1 bar and it just won't work for me. It's too narrow.

Feels fine in the garage but when I ride I find my hands want to be one half on the grips and one half on the bar end.

The upward sweep necessary to clear the tank is awkward for my wrists when operating the clutch and throttle.

Back to the Renthal Road Medium again! :banghead:

Handlebar swap #6??
Back to FZ1 bar but this time with a set of new 30mm risers from Rocky Mtn ATV
Got to rise up to go down!
Got the rotation for the wrist angle I wanted.
Brakes, throttle and clutch feel good, levers in line with arm, top of hand
Sitting into the tank again and steering feels direct
The controls still just hit the tank before full lock :( Worry about that later.

Test ride tomorrow hopefully!

Test ride success. I like it. Controls feel great.

Cornering feels so much better than it ever has on this bike with the forward position.
