Fairing repair

I have a 2007 FZ6 and the guy I bought it off damaged the fairings in a crash. He tried to repair it but once I had to remove part of the fairings to lift the tank (as I wanted access the coils) the part of the fairings around the lights all dropped down. I was wondering that is the best way for me to repair without going naked?

I would imagine if someone swapped out to go naked it's usually for the same reason so it might be a stretch to find an undamaged one.
Someone may have one though....
 
You can repair cracks in ABS plastic with heat (a process known as plastic welding), but breaks are more difficult. My thought is to create a backing plate that connects to the remaining parts of the fairing where the is good structural integrity, and attach the broken piece of the fairing to the backing plate, and then fill and smooth. The backing plate could be fabricated from .032 2024 aluminum and attached with flush rivets. Monel flush pop-rivets would work well in this situation.

I had a similar idea either using bolts or zip ties but the latter wouldn't look great.

The internal fairing is holding it all together but once I start removing some of the bolts it falls apart like in the photo.

What I was thinking of doing is using https://qbond.com/ and https://u-pol.com/product/isopon-accessories/isopon-aluminium-mesh/ pretty much what this guy did
but with a different product. No idea how strong it'll be.
 
Worth a try. The reasoning behind creating an aluminum substructure is that it creates structural integrity between the broken parts and the broken piece becomes a facade that sits securely on the substructure.
