Fuel Guage

I've only refueled a couple of times so far, because I own it since January, but it seems my fuelgauge is a bit pessimistic. With one bar left, I got 8 or 9 (2.1-2.3 Gallon) liters of fuel in. The one time I ran on reserve, 10km (6 miles) in, I could only squeeze about 10 or 11 liters (2.6 -2.9 Gallon) in. That would mean I have 8 or 9L of reserve. That's not right, is it?
Looks like I have to go on mileage instead of the fuelgauge.

I believe when the light comes on the bike has 1 gallon of gas. So if you know your mpg and your riding style stays consistent, do the math. I try to get gas no later than 30 miles on the fuel light. Last weekend I ran out of fuel with 43 miles on the fuel light. The light didn't come on till 200 miles so I thought with that good of mpg I could push it but I pushed it too far:banghead:
