I filled up my gas tank on Sunday night... I have ridden 75km since and the fuel still shows full. Any ideas why the gauge is not showing the appropriate amount left?

I have a 2005 fz6 with round instrument cluster.

That seems pretty normal to me. The first couple bars go really slowly then they tick off pretty fast. Keep riding and see if it goes down eventually.

No. This is definitely odd. Because 75km is about 5 liters of gas. By now usually I would be a couple bars down atleast.

I am suspecting one of 3 problems.

Fuel pump is bad
Cluster is bad
Harness wire between cluster and harness is bad.

How do I go about testing/trouble shooting the problem?

You've only ridden 45 miles. Sometimes my first bar doesn't go down until 50 miles if I'm being conservative with the throttle. Drive it a bit more and report back.

Did a wire get unplugged when you flipped the tank up? Or maybe the float for the fuel gauge sender got stuck.

I agree. This last tank my first bar disappeared at 58 miles. That's over 90kms. I wouldn't worry just yet.

Weirdest thing happened. Went out and started my bike and it was down one bar!

Rode another 20km. Will update as I progress. Hopefully everything is fine.

I would´nt worry about it. I sometimes ride up to 90km without the meter change. When you ridning your bike you have it upwords the meter will show one thing, then when you park it on the side stand the fuel change posistion in the tank which will cause the meter to go down one or more bar.

I lose my first bar at 160kms, the second at 200kms, the third at 230kms the fourth at 265kms and reserve starts flashing about 300kms.

The first bar just hangs on for all it's worth!

Don't worry about it.

Cheers,
Rick

thats normal dont worry. also dont get startled that after the first bar has gone down, you'll see it full again at your next start up! happens all the time with mine so its normal. mine too has the round cluster.

This is 100% completely normal! You have to remember that the tank is shaped odd and the float does not go all the way to the top of the tank, and since the tank is not a cube of some sort the fuel gauge is just for reference only, the tank holds different amounts of fuel at different points in the level and the float can't compensate for this. Unless you have a cube fuel cell the fuel gauge will never portray exactly how much is left in the tank.

I have always gone by the odometer. Mine seems to do the same thing. I usually fill up around 140-160 miles.

I have put on about 1100km since this post and the fuel indicator is working.

It does take a while for it to move, but when it starts it moves faster.
