I think fines would be the least of your worries.

My lord. Why did you have to post this? I always wanted to build something like this, but I didn't know it was actually produced.

The local highway calls to me and this would make the temptation much too great.

That's cop-bait. If a police officer ever somehow detected you had it, or saw you with it flipped, they'd pursue you to the ends of the earth.

I grew up in Alaska, and when we wanted to fishtail around on icy roads, we'd back snow on the license plate. It was plausible that it was just there from a snowstorm, while possibly giving your some anonymity.

Actually, THAT particular design has a serious flaw. You see the INDENTATIONS on the bottom plate? The one hanging by the hinges that's actually the BACK of the REAL plate? Uh Oh. The cops could TOTALLY pick that up on CAMERA and figure out what the REAL plate number is. You'd get busted SO BAD!! You'd have to put DUCT-TAPE over the BACK of your plate for that design to work.

Here in the UK, using anything like that, or anti camera sprays and coatings, or altering letters and numbers is classed as "attempting to pervert the course of justice" even if you don't commit any other offence, and it's a custodial sentence if caught and convicted. Seeing as speeding is just a civil offence punishable by a fine and points, it would be much better to be caught speeding than to be caught with that device.

I remember seeing a BMW 7 series years ago (when radar detectors were legal in Holland) who had a similar system hard wired to his radar detector, which switched the magnetic latch that released his license plate. It was quite good as this exposed his petrol cap as well so it was quite plausable to say he had forgotten to close it after filling up
