I can only comment vs a regular FZ6. sorry.

Same here.......but in my opinion, the SV will beat the FZ6R in a 1/4 mile.

Vegasrider vs SV650 at LVMS Dragstrip
So tonight I joined up with another rider from a local forum. He rides a '07 Suzuki SV650. It was the first time for me at the dragstrip so I was a Newbie ( he has done it before ). We did three runs, we were going for our 4th but some dude in his Mustang blew up his engine at the start, and his hood bliew off the car and it caught on fire. So rather waiting for them to clean the mess up, we left.

I am posting our 3rd run, both our best runs for the evening

2006 FZ6 ............2007 SV650

Reaction Time:........ .121.......116
60 ft ......................2.198.... 2.11
330 ft..................... 5.465... 5.586
1/8 mile.................. 8.143.... 8.519
MPH .......................90.98 ....82.98
1000 ft................... 10.50 ...11.096

..... to bad man i wanna a big comparison of the naked sv and the fz6r my two bikes ive been looking at big time

That's a strange thing, fully faired and naked. Can I ask why you aren't looking at the FZ6? It's fairly easy and inexpensive to convert to naked.

I was set on a svs650 but couldn't find one so I almost bought the new Gladius but just for fun I stopped at a local dealership and they had a full fairing 2007 FZ6 and the rest is history. The FZ6 imho is much more comfortable and has nicer bits and pieces all around. Don't get me wrong the sv is a great bike but I'm getting old and the riding posotion on the fz was much more forgiving.

ive grown up so far on a sv650 (naked one) and i aint looking at the fz6 because im gonna start on one of these bikes so..fz6 not starter bike fz6r and sv i can kinda imagine it so...

I don't want to rain on your parade, but.... None of these bikes are great starter bikes. You will drop your bike, and when you do you will feel a lot better when it's not a nice bike.
The Kawi 250 or 500 Ninja is a great bike to start on, and both will resell for only a few pennies less than you paid for them. They are also easy to work on, and very reliable.
They will also help you learn technique and you will learn a lot faster on either one of those bikes.

... I only got my license last summer and since have put on 2300 miles on a brand new FZ6 (obviously first bike ever) and I must say it was and still is a great starter bike. 2300 miles and it was never dropped... (knock on wood). Plus for $4,400 OTD I couldn't pass up on the deal.

just wait.. it'll happen at some point.. pray that it happens when sitting in the driveway or something and not while your ridding..

how was the gladius?? havent seen one in person to make that judgment call

Exactly. No one thinks it'll happen to them, but it always does.
The other important thing is that a smaller bike will be much easier to learn on. The learning curve on the FZ6 is much steeper than a smaller bike.
Imagine being leaned into a turn, and you hit a big bump. You will either chop or nail the throttle. If you nail the throttle, on a bigger bike, you may spin the rear tire, causing you to then chop the throttle in panic, and highside. Bad.
If you happen to chop the throttle as soon as you hit the bump, the more compliant suspension will keep you from losing the front tire and lowsiding.
Uphill starts are another good example. Most people take some time to get used to rolling the throttle and letting the clutch out. Too much gas and clutch slip on a more powerful bike and guess where the front wheel goes? smaller bike will just ease out.
The high power of the 600 will also carry you faster into a turn than you might expect.....
The Ninja 250/500 are designed to be more beginner friendly. Smoother clutches, easier power delivery, easy to work on, etc...
But, for some reason people always think they are the exception. And they might be, for a while. Eventually they will lose control. Whether they wreck a $2K bike or $5K bike is the only difference.

see man that fz6 is still alot bigger bike then both of them!!!! i like the 250's look but the gratest thing about ever owning it would be just to say i owned a crotchrocket i hear its not very comfy and when i ride whit my dad whith my permit it will be long distance!!!!! i dont know i just like these two bikes

well.. i agree and disagree.. i think the fz6 is a great first time bike, but with one catch.. HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE.. dont over ride your limits and there is no shame in only using the rpms up to 6-7k... i think the first 2 years of owning my bike, it only saw 8-9k rpms maybe 3 or 4 times.. no reason you cant learn on a fz6, but you have to take things slow and be responsible... just cuz i can do 140 mph doesnt mean its a good idea... and besides.. now i have learned to use the whole range, but still end up spending most of my days between 4k and 6k rpm.. more than enough power to get you going and keep a smile on your face ..

Totally. The FZ6 can be a beginner ride, but the others will be much easier to learn on and you will improve much faster.
If longer rides are in the picture, definitely look at the 500. The 250 is a PIA on the highway.

The FZ6 is a good beginner bike IMHO. I bought mine new, first bike I ever owned let alone had ridden. I took it very easy for a couple weeks and started getting more confident in the motorcycle and my own abilities. Hell, the day I got the 600 mile service done (I had 700 something on the clock) I pulled my first 130mph run on a WIDE open highway. I was very nervous but I needed to show myself I could do it. I say follow whatever you want to do. Sit on the bikes, whichever feels the best to you get it.
