whats black and oily and now on my gas tank?

There seems to be something dripping off of my clutch lever every time my bike gets wet(rain or wash). What would this be and how do I stop it? Thank you in advance for any help.

no i have not lubed my cable.

Has your dealer lubed your cable recently? I know it seems like I'm repeating the question, but I had the same happen to me (oil on the clutch side of the tank) I found out later that the dealer had lubed it whilst it was in the shop for something else.
