I didn't get a picture but my worst squid encounter was on I-95 here in VA. I was passed at 80 mph by a squid on a SS bike riding a wheelie in shorts, a white T-shirt and flip flops! Oh but he did at least have a helmet.

It's surprising how little people care about gear in the UK!
Every summer i am astonished by how little gear you see on people, and how many ride without even what i would consider bare minimum, like gloves, shoes and long sleeves and trousers.
It seems the only people wearing gear are the motorcycle couriers!
I think most people wear gear. The exceptions in the UK are learner riders on L plates (usually mopeds and 125's), and also the summer fair weather riders.
Most people (myself included) were decent amounts of protection. Luckily 1 piece leather suits are quite popular with the sports bike summer contingent.

The shear volume of mopeds/scooters and flip flops is crazy. From work or play and nothing but a helmet. Apparently they've never fouled up on a bicycle to see the aftermath at "low speeds"!

Here in London i really see more people in suits or shorts and T-shirts than people in gear...
it could be regional then

IL only gear requirement is eye protection and I too often see people following only that rule. My favorite is the scooter guys in flip flops with swim trunks and an unbuttoned Hawaiian t shirt..because you know you can't get just as mangled on a scooter.

I have to agree with Greg here, most and I do mean most 'Bikers' do wear ATGATT, those who ride in flip flops (thongs for our Aussie cousins) shorts. t-shirts etc I do not consider to be bikers....geez there are a lot of cagers I don't consider being drivers due to inconsideration to other road users.
As a whole 'bikers' are a good bunch who understand the dangers and act (and dress) accordingly

At least he has a helmet on, hard to consider that a squid especially since he isn't even moving. Where I'm from he would be considered pretty geared up. Being from the Harley Capital of the World folks tend to wear zero gear. Also this is taken in a downtown situation, who knows maybe he won't be exceeding 30 mph, I usually only wear a helmet if I'm keeping to bicycle speeds.

I know the road, and preceding that is a 50mph country stretch from the motorway.
At 30mph you can suffer some very serious road rash. I'm sure a 195bhp machine would never exceed that though

I wore more gear than that riding a standup Jet Ski... Not just when racing either.
But sometimes just vest a gloves!

Alright, so yeah 50 mph would be pretty bad to go down at, but still. I guess I road cycle in spandex so I figure I going down in jeans and a t-shirt at 30-40 mph couldn't be worse than going down in spandex at 30 - 40 mph.
He's still not really squiding it up though. I don't see any wheelies, flipflops, chrome spikes, helmet mohawks, etc.

Having had the misfortune to need to travel through London regularly in previous employment, I can officially tell you that as soon as most people have spent more than an hour there, any kind of touch with reality diminishes rapidly.
In the rest of the UK, squids are very much in the minority. It's usually the chav boys in tracksuits. Even the rebel cruiser crowd are armouring up now, thanks to the rise of kevlar jeans.
