Hey guys, so I decided to wash my bike with , and i wiped the speedo but after i turned on the bike after a few hours, it stopped working, The backlights work the headlight symbol and turn signal and Neutral light works but no speed readout or rpm needle nothing shows up. What could have gone wrong ?

Likely water got into one of the connectors. Disconnect them and blow both sides out with compressed air. You may want to spray the contacts with contact cleaner to reduce the chance of corrosion in the future. When you reassemble them, add some dielectric grease to the outer surface of the inside connector.

Hi thanks for responding, i ended up plugging and unplugging the speedo wire, that seemed to get the display back but now it’s acting as if it’s new. Rpm gauge still no good.

Luckily you've got the S2 model, so you can open the instrument cluster by removing some screws (instead of having to cut it open as happens with the S1 :( )

Open it up and spray in some contact cleaner, also check for loose wires etc.

BTW you shouldn't be using the Red key for riding, it's only for re-coding replacement Black keys to work with the immobiliser.

We don't have the red key immobilizer in the states so I don't know what
that's about.

The cluster is off something not a FZ600 (due to a lower red line and the # design).

Just to add, the speedometer pick up is at the back of the engine, under the throttle bodies.
If that sensor has corrosion, etc, that would be an issue- So somewhere else to check..

I bought the bike used so i’m not sure where the speedo came from, it’s like everything is reset back to factory settings after plugging and unplugging the wire it’s so strange.

opened up the speedo there was still water inside, put the display to dry out in the sun, the reset button has a bit of rust and doesn’t seem to be working either, maybe after staying in the sun for a while and some contact cleaner i’m praying it works. I think mileage info got corrupted but oh well hoping this works

cleaned and connected again, not working the reset button also doesn’t seem to be working? but when i press both to enter diag mode i can’t get past the d1 so i’m not sure. I’ll have to get a new speedo likely, any suggestions?
