Stutter/no acceleration/power loss when hot

Update*

Not doing a victory lap yet, but I finally got time and doubled-checked the ignition coils.

I didn’t notice the first time around, but the mounting holes on the back of the box where the coils mount, were totally corroded/rusted to the point that 2 were cracked/broken.

I ended up replacing the battery box with a clean used one off eBay. I also cleaned the coil arms that are held down to the mount holes with the bolt and tab.

After 2 longer test rides, the stalling/studder/powerloss symptom hasn’t come back.

I’ll post again after I’m fully sure that was what caused the problem.

Thanks for everyone’s help.

Any updates for us???

Any updates for us???
I did take the bike out on a couple more rides since my last update. It hasn’t had the problem.

I haven’t had the opportunity to go on a long (50mi+) ride yet… but hopefully will this upcoming week. I’m optimistic and gaining confidence, will post an update.

I noticed when I replaced the corroded battery box, a couple of the spark plug wires were routed a little funky. It’s possible they were touching the block and getting hot but I’m not sure.

Sounds like you are on the road to recovery!

For what it is worth, I brought a problem child out of long term (poor) storage, and had similar issues, after I got the bike to stop trying to kill me with wheel lockup.

For me, it turned out to be low fuel pressure.

I bought a knock off pump assembly, but after using a gauge to test the factory OEM unit, found the pump to have plenty of pressure, but the regulator was letting it bleed off in stead of getting to the injectors. Bike ran kinda fair, with 12 psi to the injectors, but anything over 7500 rpm was ugly.

Kept the Chinese knock off pump as a spare, but not interested in running it, as long as the OEM unit works.
