    D3O Strain-Rate sensitive Armor

I've got the spine protector, and the forearm pieces.... good stuff. Comfortable, and confidence inspiring.

Closest I've been so far... Death?

Glad your 'spidey senses' gave you some warning of what was to come..... good on you for checking on the driver, too!

    CVN-65 Decommissioning 1 Dec 2012

I served on board the enterprise as ship's company, from 1980-1983. She's on her last deployment now, and will return to be taken out of service in. 50 years and who knows how many miles steaming in war and peaceful times. I visited Perth, Sasebo, Mombassa, Diego Garcia, Singapore, Hawaii...

    Sold my fizzer... now what?

When my son was born, I sold the bike I had at the time. It was more important to me be on the scene in his formative years than potentially miss out on all of that. Working on your family is so much more incredibly important to so many people... hopefully for you as well as them. I respect...

    Suspension upgrade

^^+1 I did the upgrade, to better springs, altered damping rates on the fork and that fully adjustable Ohlins on the back. Absolutely the best mod I did to the bike. You don't know how bad the OEM set up is, until you ride something better....

    Clutch Perch

If the bolt sheared off in the housing, you can still get the piece removed. The most common way to do this is with an 'easy out'. That's a device that bites into what remains and screws it 'out' instead of 'in'. You usually need to drill a small starter hole in the bolt, to get the easy out...

    big bore kit

I don't think you'd need larger diameter headers, or a new intake -- odds are the same throttle bodies and injectors would work, as well (they'd spend more time open all the way across the RPM range). Powerwise, the top end would suffer some compared to the optimized setup now, but would that...

    Re-gearing for commuting

A more dense charge in the cylinder means more power on each power stroke because the increased air will allow more fuel.... it all depends on whether you reduce your wrist action or leave it WFO. If you seek a level of power, rather than the maximum, you'll twist the grip less, with dense cold...

    Re-gearing for commuting

Rick, I don't log each tank, simply do the math at the pump when I fill the tank and reset the trip meter. I'd be interested in knowing what happens to your fuel consumption/unit of distance during the hot season. With the decreased air density, I would expect the FI to reduce the amount of...

    Re-gearing for commuting

After I started riding the ZX6R I have now, I had a discussion with officer friendly concerning the sheer noise coming from my bike when I whacked the throttle open. (WFO over about 10K is painful for people in cars adjacent.) As a result of that conversation, I slowed down and kept the RPM...

    Re-gearing for commuting

So your 55 MPG is equivalent to 45.8 MPG with US Gallons..... Assuming Irish miles are the same as US ones, 8^). Your typical max range before the low fuel warning is probably quite similar to US ranges -- I'm guessing roughly 180 miles? What does your owner's manual claim, as capacity?

    Re-gearing for commuting

Neil, Are you computing MPG from Imperial gallons? US Gallons contain less fuel, hence lower MPG in comparison. An Imperial gallon is 1.2 US Gallons. I'd expect your MPG to be 20% higher as a result.

    big bore kit

The con rod offset on the crank would only have to be 11mm, as it affects the stroke plus and minus..... that would get you to 900cc. If you are simply looking for more HP out of the FZ6 mill, I doubt you'd have to go that far. A 5mm increase would give you a displacement of >750cc. That's...

    Brake Fluids

This is one where it is far better to change the fluid. As has been said, brake fluid absorbs water out of the air. It does this in your lines, as well as in an unsealed container of fluid. That water settles to the lowest point in the brake system. That is almost certainly the lowest point...

    big bore kit

I have to wonder if an increase in displacement is possible with the FZ6 motor, by stroking it? This was the route Honda went with the 919, 954RR motors... simply longer stroke versions of their 600cc engines. I would be very surprised if it took more than a few mm longer 'throw' on the...

    2005 FZ6 First Riding Impression

My first thought is that you need to make sure the cable is lubricated.

    What's the point/purpose?

I couldn't justify the expense, either. Going to a less restrictive exhaust has the potential to allow more of the motor's work to spin the back wheel.... but that only works if you can get at the point where the restriction is greatest, and reduce it there. With the FZ6, the intake is...

    Extremely stupid chain slack question????

You have the slack near enough to right to relax about it. :) My personal suggestion is to maintain the MAXIMUM slack allowed, using the tightest point in the chain as your reference. The plastic guard on top of the swingarm is there to protect the aluminum from the chain...... Yamaha would...

    New clutch, still slipping

The problem may be with the oil you are using, rather than the clutch plates, etc...... What brand and grade of engine oil are you using?

    Opnavinst 5100.12j

I have to think it's based on economic factors, Neil. Short sighted ones, at that. The policy under OPNAVINST 51002.12 has been that DoD civilians are given paid time to attend training. (Active duty are still in this category.) A one day course with 8-12 participants racks up quite a...
