Do you have a charger which is able to supply power on itself? Maybe you could try it like that... Just an idea to test whether it's the battery that's screwed here.
Good to hear about the frame sliders saving your engine.
For conversion question, it's best to ask somebody else. As a matter of fact, Yamaha did that for me: it's an official Yamaha FZ6-N! Only added bellypan, windscreen and a fender eliminator.

I'm mostly in Eindhoven, but the bike is safe and dry in Limburg. Can't get it inside here and she's just too pretty to sleep outside in a city like this. Had her in Zeeland at first, but Limburg seemed more fun :-D

On your way to Germany, don't hesitate to use the Mergelland route. I've been riding the part between Vaals and Epen a few times last weekend: great roads for Dutch guys ;-)
