exhaust replace cat mid pipe

Dang. I thought you found one online from a retailer or something. I want to get one before my TBs get here. Don't want to gut the CAT.

You should be able to get one fabricated from a local shop for around $50. It is a simple dumb pipe but will definitely reduce around 7-9 lbs and give more sound and power.
I didn't want to gut my CAT to keep in case for passing emissions testing.

After checking around where I live to get a pipe made with no luck, I decided to go online and buy one made by Mivv. Runs around $119.00 including shipping through a distributor in the USA. Bad news is that I've got to wait for it to ship from Italy.

If it is short, you can lower the stock pipe into it and clamp it. The top mount is not really important. I just replaced my CAT few hours back and didn't feel any difference in lower rpms and sound. Next in line is install PCIII and maybe airbox mod ..

OK I've got an update on the the cat elim pipe being too short. PJ's informed that the pipe I've got is for the 2006 model, which is a problem because I've got a 2007. PJ's has been intouch with MIVV who has informed that the cat elim pipe for the 2007 model is "still in production". :(

The Arrow site also does not list a 2007 mode cat elim pipe.

oh and btw i just took mine to a shop, had them cut it with a torch, gut it, weld a pipe through the inside of the hollow cat, then some kind of fancy weld all back together again...inexpensive and effective!

hope this helps in some way!

Don't you think it was BITCHIN PITA to take the CAT off ...

Major PITA, but I bashed it's guts out for being so hard to remove. Cleaned up the inside real good, polished it a little in the straight parts, not the pregnant section though.

Noticed 3 things:

Idles lower when warming up.
Runs cooler, lot cooler on legs and seat.
And has more power, it will pull up on me much more when I hit 12-13k rpm.
Wheelies now, used to just come up about a foot.
It's an 05 no mods other than light pods etc. no mech mods.
I do use and always have used high octane fuel from the same source for 4 years.
Original owner.

Yep, I'll be dumping the cat too...hopefully I'll get the 1600KM.s ( break in ) before winter sets in ? Anyway heres my 2 cents, if one is going to mod this area I can't see just punching out the ceramic cat material. Before the cat, you've got X amount of gases flowing, entering a empty cat area the gases slow down because of the increased cross sectional area, then they have to find there way back into the previous pipe diameter...at the very least you have flow disruption....a section of straight pipe is the way to go. :D

Arrow makes a mid pipe that will work.

I asked my dealer here in the UK to get and fit one from here:

B&C Express - Arrow Exhausts -> Yamaha

As I've an 08 FZ6 we had to be sure it was the right mid pipe ie ref: 71371MI.

I had Devil end cans already fitted and the mid pipe fits fine but pushes the Devils back out about 2cm ie they protrude that much more from the seat unit. Not a big problem IMO.

As to them in action, I've noticed:
- a LOT more noise
- the engine hunts maybe a hundred rpm at tickover, which I like
- together with a new set of Pilot Road 2s I fitted at the same time, the whole bike feels more responsive and taut. I can't put any sort of objective measurement to that, but I'm :D

I know this is an old thread, for people who have the question, will it change the results in the dyno, with gutted out mid-pipe vs empty midpipe:
No difference in power, on a CBR600rr; so, I don't expect any change on ours either.

Anyway, can we fit the slips-ons of CBR 600RR on our FZ6, the reason is, I like the looks and the sound of Toce and they replied me saying, they will not design/manufacture anything for our FZ6 (only R or RR bikes, not street bikes).
I just wanted to know, if anyone got this idea and looked into this.
Same with Laser also.
It is cheaper to have single slip-on than our expensive dual pack, IMO.
