So I bought my bike a month ago (second hand)
it's a very very clean bike from the outside. So I decided to take a look behind the front sprocket cover.
I screwed out the 3 screws and opened up the cover. It was pure HORROR!!!
The inside of the plastic cover was completely black with bad grease buildup everywhere. In the grease there were pieces of rock, grass, I even tought I saw pubic hair!
Also around the sprocket there was a lot of grease. (see photos)
So I decided to clean it quickly so I could sleep well that night.
first I cleaned the plastic cover by drenching it in a pool of WD-40. the grease came off quite good.
Second I sprayed WD-40 all over and around the sprocket. Next I sprayed the chain with chain cleaner (S-100)
After waiting for 15 minutes, I hosed down the sprocket and chain, removing the grease.
Because it was very dirty, I had to repeat this action 2 times. (S-100 + hosing)
Next I take a short ride to warmup the chain before I lubed it.
I have to say that the sprocket and the area around are still not completely clean, but that will be for another time as it was allready dark outside.

- You don't have to remove the gear shifter for opening up the cover.
- It is wise to use latex gloves
- I lubed the chain while on paddock stand. The engine was running and was in 2nd gear. THIS IS NOT SAFE, so if you are as lasy as I am:spank:, please be carefull that nothing comes near the chain or back sprocket (fingers of clothes) I lubed at a distance from 15cm. It was not wise, but I was in total control of the situation. Totally focussed, gloves off, sleaves up, pets inside and neighbours ignored :Flip:
ps; I'll be installing the Yamaha belly pan soon, it will complete the bike:rockon:
