Well, FINALLY got round to fitting this, so:
- Neatly packaged, and arrived promptly. All looks good quality and sturdy
- Lots of sticky pads included that I haven't found much use for
- no mounting screws included. No mounts I can understand, because there are so many different applications, but no screws is just a PITA
- good instructions included, a better English proofreader would have reinforced the quality message, but there is nothing that causes confusion
- Install was pretty straightforward once I'd decided where to mount things. I mounted the front camera on the underside of the nose with some simple aluminium L-brackets, I couldn't figure out anywhere else that wouldn't look stupid. I hardwired power to the circuit I made for the lighter socket (on/off with engine run), and mounted the dvr unit in the tail cubbyhole. The gps unit fits nicely in the taillight unit. I haven't mounted the rear camera yet, no time. I haven't mounted the "don't overwrite this" button, it's ugly and I can't see the point of it (if anything exciting did happen I'm fairly sure I'd remember to lift the video)
- It does exactly what they say it does; starts and stops with the bike, shoots excellent video. I was going to post a sample, but our internet connection is too slow to cope with uploading the massive files it creates (about a Gb for 10 minutes)(and the gps shows in the corner, and plod reads the internet too). Particularly impressed with how well it copes with fast light changes (going under trees in full sunshine), and how clear number plates are. Only issue for me is the (fixed) low camera position which limits what it can see compared to a helmet cam (it can't see as much as I can, nor does it show where I'm looking, just where I'm going)
- the included software will not run on XP, but runs fine on 8.1. It's great; The map of your route is clear, as are the other data. You can choose the bit of your ride that you want to look at by selecting either from the map, or from your chosen data (the speed graph for instance), which is great fun. Not so good bits are that you can't drag the map around, and there is no export facility integrated. You need to go into the raw files (1 minute long by default, though I'm sure this is adjustable) to export a movie, which for the likes of me is a pain.
Think that about covers it, I'm pretty chuffed. With a few screws in the box and slightly slicker software I'd give it 10/10.
Bear in mind that my use is mostly "install and forget", I commute as well as play, it's there for when a moron pulls out without looking and knocks me off, not for posting videos on youtube of me tearing up downtown Abergavenny*
