High-tech Redneck
well i know i havent been on much at all, but do some lurking here and there. and probably will be doing some maintinace this spring, but i have been very busy with work and car issues, and being that i cant ride year round that comes first!
but as an update early june i got a 2005 honda shadow saber 1100, with 17,000 miles for $3,500
i put tires on it and did some maintenance like oil and got the air horn working again and had put about 1000 in just shy two months!
then one fatefull morning at the end of july I was riding the bike to work, a deer ran into me we tumbled, it sucked, I am stiff and sore but overall in good shape.
The full description of what happened
I left for work as ussual about 6am wed morning, I live about a mile from a small town that has 25mph. After getting through town ( about two moiles away now) I speed up to the speed limit to start cruising on in, about a half mile out of town I spot a glimpse of a deer.... $hit! I knew I didn't have time to really avoid her if she kept on my way as she was commingle across at about a 45? or so, so i figured I would do the next best thing and try to scare before with the air horn, but before I could even hit the button WHAM!!!! She nailed me. Next thing I know I am hitting the ground and tumbling along. Once I came to a rest I took a moment to catch my breath and did a mental all systems check. Alive - check
Major pains - negitive
Broken parts - not that i can tell
Everything still feel attached - yep I think so
So i slowly make it to me knees and take my helmet off and use the bandanna I had on ( it was chilly) to clean the massive amount of dew that was on my glasses and take a look around to see exactly were I was trying to reach for my phone in my cargo pocket..... nothing! A Quick look around and there it is about 3ft away, pick it up and nothing. Take a look and see her about 30 ft away. As I got to my feet all I could think of was walking over and kicking her. As I made my way over to her when I got about 5 feet from her she snapped her eyes open and head up and looked at me like wtf. She jummped to her feet and bounded about 10 ft and stopped and staggered a bit. I just kinda looked at her and said "you too?" I tried to reboot the phone and everything else I could but the screen was cracked and you could not see or do anything with it even tho it was still on
The woman that owns the small store close by was headed in and stopped. I used her phone to call the police, wife, work, and dad to pick it up (he lives a mile closer to were I was than me) headed over to the e.r. just to be sure , and nothing major wrong. The worst I have is some swelling in my left knee and ankle, and some pain in my right chest.
The bike is no as bad off as one would think either, I was quite suprised to see how little damage there really was I will know tomorrow what is going to happen with it the insurance guy said no matter what happens that a check will be cut one way or another be it total or repair or whatever so i will post up what happens on that in the afternoon after it is said and done
And some pics!
Were my helmet and packpack were is about were I was laying at the end of my tumble. In the pics of the road a few feet infront of the camera is about were the bike touched down and were I am standing is were we stopped.
I was able to swap back to my older Droid x till the replacement raze HD gets here which is good , but had slowed some things down not having a phone for a bit
Anyway the pics
And these I took on the way back home from the hostpital
This dent was the only damage I could see on the left side, and i think this was from like her shoulder or something
What's left of a $200+ pair of danners
needless to say that sucked, but it did lend me to 13 days later in early august i picked up an 89 1500 goldwing with 44,000 for 3,700!
Here is the pics!!
she still rides just not a ton these days, i will have to see what the latest odo readings are. just the normal stuff needed on hers this year. tires, oil change and such. probably should start looking into several other items as well tho. like streering head bearing and swing arm bearings and possibly checking the valves. other than that it is ride on!
